1500 miles in - queries/niggles

Post by panhandle »

Still loving the R especially as I'm just beginning to give the car some more welly after running it in, but just had a couple of queries/niggles.....

"Unpleasant" sound when on full lock.

Slight stuttering on start up - most of the time the start up is seamless but occassionally it stutters a little - only very slightly but its a shame because the experience of firing the beast up is awesome.

Why do I have a key instead of a button to start?

Seatbelt on passanger side rattles if no passenger strapped in! (need to be on two wheels :) )

I have come from a Beemer which (when new) had no funny noises/rattles so maybe I'm being harsh!

Cycling through audio stations is a bit poo ie when you use the steering wheel controls to cycle through stations left and right it picks the stations which are in range rather than going from R1 to R2 and then back again - unless I'm missing something? I do have all the presets taken up, but is it just me than cannot quite reach forward enough to hit Radio 1 in the top left preset :? )

Anyone else get the same/got any thoughts?

why do you believe you should have a start button rather than a key?
the start/stop button is part of the keyless entry system (KESSY) which is not available in the UK & would be a chargeable option.

In ref to seatbelt, is the belt sitting correctly, i know when i have had a passenger and the belt has not retracted correctly and the metal is touching the interior then it taps intermittently, a quick pull out and release and your good to go

Buttons are old school ... Install a clapper :D

Is this just in the cold mornings or at any time of day?

A knocking sound or does it sound like a motor? Is this in the car or can you only hear it with the window down?

I believe that answers all of you questions with questions :)

Also, in the set up screen of the RNS510 you get the choice to decide if you want the seek buttons on the unit or steering wheel to scan through the radio frequencies or scan through the presets. Your chioce.

Don't know if it's the same for the RCD 510?

Too many to thank indiviudaully but appreciate the responses.

Seatbelt seems sorted now.

Start Up misfire seems always when starting up after period of rest - sounds fractionally worse when early morning. Its fine when I get back in the car after being at the petrol station (frequently) as the car is still warm.

Will have another look on the stereo menu for he change, I did have a good nose around the menus to check this but must have missed it - cheers.

Unplesant noice isnt a knocking and does seem to only be when window down and full lock going right.

These niggles are all offset though by the "dump" noise you get when you floor it in S or Manual - glory! Although I do feel like I've probably just killed off some penguins with it!!!

If its not knocking and more of a whine then the noise whilst not the nicest of noises is normal for full lock power steering

What exactly happens when you start the car from idle? Does it feel like its trying to stall?

Friend of mine had a Civic Type R and noticed a similar sound when turning full lock. He said it's to do with the alloy wheel rubbing against the tyre and its nothing to worry about.

Cheers all, I think the noise is more likely to be the power steering pump.

I was all set to record the start up on my phone this morning but it started fine! I just think the cars a primadonna and gets the hump if its not sunny.
