ADVICE - not happy asking this

Right - this is realy hard writing this message but bassically with the current credit cruch and me working in the property industry (no not a resi agent) I am having to debat if buying a car right now is the right choice.

what do you think I should do?

Cars have been my life so this is one very hard decision but just tryign to consider my future with my girlfriend and that made worse by the fact I work in the most expensive city in the world.

Wow that is an hard question for anybody else to answer without knowing your personal circumstances.
Would you be looking to buy another possibly cheaper car? if so would you be happy with it?
Do you need a car i.e to get to work?
Is your GF happy/unhappy about your decision to get a new car?
Is your job safe? {or are there feelings where you work that there will be redundancies}

Ultimately the decision has got to be yours because different people have different priorities and will base their answers on their own circumstances.
But as you say at the end of your post cars have been your life and unfortunately it is an expensive hobby {as I have found out}

dont feel bad about asking, im sure lots of people have personal situations along the same lines. Myself, ive been struggling to sort out my debt situation that i got myself into when i was younger. Luckily its all settled now and my car is kind of the treat at the end. Also, my company are paying for most of it monthly so its not really that big a hit.
But i know what you mean, should i have used the money to improve life for me and my girlfirend and make it easier to buy a house etc etc.

some questions: do you really need the car? how much better would you be and what would you be able to do if you dont buy the car? have you thought about moving?
it would be a shame not to have another rocco on the roads though!

my problem is at the moment i can afford the car easily company are paying my problem is in the current climet there is the risk of being made redundant and thats my problem in that I will probably lose a good amoun of money if I am forced to see the car.

Cars really have been my life had show cars for the past 5 years and was lucky enough to have what I wanted even with company sponsership now I buy a car for me and am sort of forced into this.

80% is saying stay with it but the other part is saying think about your future

how are you buying the car if you dont mind me asking? all in one or pcp or HP or something else

In that case why not go for it and take out payment protection {if you are buying on HP}. I know it is extra payment but at least it will give you some peace of mind.

doing pcp but with quite a large deposit.

iroc thats something I considered but the costs are massive plus if you claim just one month you have to pay for the cover protection outright you dont get any disocunt if you settle early.

It looks like you have been considering your options for a while. And you are still 80% in favour. Looks to me like you really want to go for it.
If it was me I would take the chance, but as I said before the decision has to be yours.

I have been mulling over this for the past week and to say its being doing my head in is an understatement.

I have about 3 weeks to decided so looks like its going to be a great month time...

if you did decide you wanted to cancel, you could always explain to the dealer that you are encountering uncertain financial times and see what they say about it and getting the deposit back. Ive started a new job recently and my dealer said that if things didnt work out they may be able to give me the deposit back, so long as they have someone who wants the car etc if its already been built

Demand for the Scirocco is easily outstripping supply - there'd be no problem selling it on for the first year I reckon, should push come to shove.

Personally, I'd take the risk with an exit strategy of selling it on.

langlord, i also work in the property industry and left the confort of a firm of 200 people last year to work for a company of 8 it is interesting times, having seen sky news whislt i was on holiday i am surprised th uk is still in existence today when i touched down, you gotta do what you gotta do, future mrs andy and myself both decided to swap our motors, conscious of the climate i decided to go for a cheaper option in the scirocco than the s3 i initally wanted, i too considered cancelling but given the amount my a3 is depreciating at the moment it needs to go as keeping it another 9 months will mean i am worse off, airing on the side of caution i have funded the balance through a loan rather than buying it outright cash so i can keep a few quid in the bank (fortunately mine appears to be in existance) and keep my options open and a roof over my head, if it all goes horribly wrong dubai may call, whislt the used car market is swamped at the moment it is worth bearing in mind that given the current fall in registrations there will be shortfall of used motors in two years time and given the limited numbers of scrioccos i feel it is a reasonable bet as gti values remain strong, i've already told my dealer to give me a bell when i can put a deposit down on the 'r' version
