Also, my local Dealers are saying that they are so hard to get hold of, even new ones, they are suggesting buying a GT and getting it remapped, so much for warranty invalidation.

Anyone else heard of this?

Only seen a couple. When I asked at the first dealer I went to about an R, the attitude was very negative - almost as if they couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to get one. Once I had the quote for contract hire (£100 a month more) I decided it wasn't worth it for my style of motoring - I would be able use the difference only once or twice a month - so I didn't pursue it any further.

Funny how some dealers want to do business, others don't seem bothered at all. I ordered late October and there wasn't any problem placing the order, and my car will have taken 5 months to take delivery, not that bad in the scheme of things. Should have tried a different dealer maybe, one who actually wants to sell cars!

Ordered mine last may delivered in Dec, dealer couldnt have been more helpful. As soon as he realised I was serious about buying he one sorted out a test drive in an R with most of the spec I wanted, even suggested a test drive in a DSG Golf R if I wasnt sure about having a manual. So yes very much depends on the dealer.

I didn't get to test drive, very few Rs on demo when I ordered so couldn't actually try one. I tried a Golf R but it wasn't an official demo car so could only go round the block, that was manual. So when my R arrives in March, i have no idea what to expect lol, although i know it'll be good! :D

It was the same for me, Strat. I test drove a 170 manual diesel, then a Megane 250 Cup, then bought an R (having originally intending, nay promising, to buy a GT and not be tempted by the R). I had also borrowed an S3 for a day with a DSG box. I've only done 150 miles so far (I work from home) but so far it's surpassing my expectations.
Ordered 14/8/2010. Scheduled BW4 2011. In dealer Feb 4th 2011. Driving Feb 11th 2011

I like the sound of that. Next few weeks will be a lonnnnng old wait! Luckily i know its in the UK, so made it this far ok, now lets hope there aren't any problems with it and we'll be good to go. Then there's the small matter of a couple of cheeky mods .... :S lol

Yeh true, but like Jane says, i won't have the exhaust. it'll take about 6 weeks for a certain item to arrive anyway, so in that time ill prep the exhaust etc so April should be ideal timing!
