A new wheel rim for £317?!

Post by travelman »

I finally hit one of the many potholes littering our roads last night in the dark, a massive thump and my wheel rim is so buckled it needs replacing. I have been quoted £317.94 from the VW dealer in Milton Keynes, which is a ton of money I do not have. Is this a good price and has anyone had this problem, as be good to get this done a lot cheaper if poss.

Cheers!

Take pictures of the Pot hole and your wheel and sent them to the roads department at your local council. A friend of mine did this a few years ago and was re-imbursed for the cost. Took a while though.

If the wheel is buckled then i'd be having a very close look at the tyre aswwell.

Also, if the wheel took that big a hit you;ll be wanting the tracking etc looked at too.

Yep that is the price am afraid - £271 plus VAT.

I looked at buying 2 to keep to put on with my summer tyres and leave my winter tyres on the current but cheaper to pay to get the tyres swapped over.

Have you seen this. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... =20&t=4938

I would snap his hand off. Both are easily smart repaired and would be a lot cheaper than a new one. If it's done properly you won't even notice.
I had such a repair done by Chips Away on my last car and asked several people who seen it before to see if they could tell it had be repaired and no one could
IF IT'S NOT BROKEN
I'VE NOT TOUCHED IT YET !!

Hi £317 sounds ok to me. I've just replaced my space saver with a full blown 18" Interlargos from the main dealer and had it shod with a Pirrelli at a cost of £348.72 for the rim and £204.10 (with 10% discount) for the tyre.

Incidently, if you replace the space saver with a full size wheel it tends to stick up in the centre of the boot like a top hat. Does anybody know of anybody selling foam packings for around the wheel to level the boot floor to the top of the wheel?

I think these wheel are made for VW by BBS I have seen a manufacturing video on their site some time ago and they were the same as fitted to my car.
Have looked on BBS site but they don’t list them for sale.

VW stopped using BBS some time ago, the Talladegas are made by ATS i suspect some of the others are too, Borbet also make some VW rims too

BBS have stopped manufacturing OE wheels, Ronal now produce all former BBS OE wheels having bought that side of BBS.
