Ipod/Iphone MDI Retrofit advice needed!

Post by tim107 »

My Roc doesn't have MDI Connector installed from factory.
I do want to have it installed though. What are the things I need other than the MDI Control Unit?
New Center Colsole?

MDI box must connect to CANBUS. Your MDI box may come with one, if not then this is one option, if You can solder and fidle with wires:
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info ... N-MDI.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or this plug n play
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info ... ess--.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please note they are not exactly the same thing.

PS Do not expect any usable after-sale service from Kufatec...

I'm a soldering "God".

But I'll stick to the plug and play :P Where do I install the MDI harness? Retrofit to the armrest compartment?
I see there isn't a spot for the armrest compartment to put the MDI harness.

Does that mean I also need to buy the MDI cable?:

Yes. There is also one that fits MDI to USB.

I hooked mine up behind the radio, and fitted the MDI box between the glovebox and the door (left hand drive) so I can have the iPod in the glovebox.

Thanks for the help.

I called VW and asked for the MDI factory fitting issue and they quoted me $500USD (approx. currency conversion from HKD) for fitting the MDI harness + iPod/iPhone/USB/MP3 cable. ALL IN 1!
I have decided to let them take the cash to save me some fiddling. BTW, it will be covered by warranty

Sorry for wasting your time.
