When did you see your first Roc 'in the flesh'

Post by gibbsy »

I remember seeing photographs of the Roc in some of the motoring press and thinking it was quite a looker. However, at the time it was about a useful as tits on a bull to me. At the time I had a 30kg Field Spaniel and I don't think he would have liked the back of the Roc. So I ordered a Volvo V50 and a couple of weeks before I look delivery poor old Trefor died.

Driving around we saw a couple of Rocs on the road but never got to see one close up. Then we went to Monmouthshire Agricultural Show and the local VW garage always had a stand there. A gleaming black TSI. I was in love. :yummy: But my wife never got to see it, she was too busy yapping to her friends in the dog show.

So, time to change the Volvo. Fancy a Golf GTD, oh love of my life? Don't really need an estate now that we only have a Cocker Spaniel. Off to the local VW dealer to look at the GTD. Only thing is I'm looking at the practical GTD but the wife is entranced with the Rocco. First time she's really had a good look at one and boy is she in love. :eyepop:

So, we are both patiently waiting for our Indium Grey TDI 170. May can't come to soon (or is it June.............July............. :? ).

I came up behind one about 9mths ago, never seen one before. Got closer and thought what the heck is that  very classy looking car!

Anyway to cut a long story short, when my company car came up for renewal the Roc was on the list, so I took one out for a test drive and it was really nice. So put my order in and been waiting since Sept  was due to be delivered first week in Jan, then delayed and now expecting in about 2 weeks time! Can't wait :D

Does the Iroc count? If so, Paris motor show October 2006. If not, a nice shadow blue Scirocco with truffle leather at the October 2008 Paris show.

One of the writers for Autocar magazine used to live a few doors down from me. He had a rising blue press car for a weekend about 6 weeks or so before they hit the showrooms and I had a good look round it. That was me sold. As soon as the local dealer had one in I went and booked a test drive and I've been over the moon ever since :)

I fell in love with the Roc from just what I'd seen and read on web sites. By the time I saw one in the local VW dealers in Jan 2009 I'd already decided on the model and spec I was going to get. :D
