Refurbishment of alloys wheels

I have an issue that someone has dropped one of my allow wheels marking it - the wheel has recently been replaced and is completely new. However the issue is this...trying to get the wheel repaired means that anyone who is going to repair it (not spot repair) will not guarantee to colour match the wheel exactly to the OE specification. So being realistic the only way to get the wheel repaired is to replace it again - however I was offered another option which is to respray all 4 wheels again from the start which means they will all colour match with each other.

What would you do?

just get the single one repaired.

how big is the mark? they may not need to respray whole wheel. the wheels get soo dirty soo often will it be noticeable to anyone apart from yourself?

but if it worries you and you have the £££'s to respray all 4 to ensure colour match then do that.

to me its just a wheel and it's gonna take some abuse at some point in its life!

Go to a decent wheel refurbisher like The Wheel Specialist and get just the one refurbished. Trust me, they can match it to within 99.9999%! I had mine done and it looked completely OEM. As the wheels are not immediately next to each other, there is no way you'd notice if the colour match was not 100% perfect

I have two spare sets so i dont have this issue :-) , if it was me i would just get them all done in a darker colour

I was thinking that - it was the wheel specialist that I went to, they couldn't guarantee a colour match because it is a two tone colour system that is black and silver - I was thinking about having all done - but I will put offer to them that either they provide me with a new wheel at a cost of £520 or refurb all four to colour match at £350.

My concern if they do go with the refurb you it will invalidate any warranty claim and the warranty would be with the refurb company - if they are that good.

What sort of issue do you expect with the alloys ?, OEM paint hardly ever has problems (unlike the diamond cut finishes) any other fault will be covered as usual by VW

PS, who damaged it ?, oh and which location Thewheelspecialist are you using ?

It's not the OEM paint it's paint that paint the wheel specialist or anyone else for that matter will use and how that will last.

In my experience it will be better than VW's paint, plus with the TWSP you will get a guarantee , ps you can knock them down on price

all depends on the quality of the refurb , had mine done as a point of sale through vw dealer ( just found out they used a mobile sub contractor ) 6 month down the line the paint flaked off on all 4 wheels
after a load of hassle and grief they have just redone all 4 wheels in official vw bodyshop so they say , only time will tell , one thing is certain they lie through their back teeth

Round here, dealers hand off the task to the Mobile Alloy Wheel refurbishers.

Because every dealership I have ever dealt with farm this sort of work out to either a static specialist or a mobile repair man

Berkshire - I used Monty's tyres and wheels

Windrush VW use em and put me onto them.

I had two wheels refurbed - one side slightly different to the other - but better that one wheel on he same side.

VW don't release the paint code for wheels sadly - I call on all of you to petition them into it

Waiting to get my car back so I can get mine done...
I need to get a couple done so, went through the same thought, well I want them to match so I may as well get them all done. If I'm getting them all done may as well be darker..

Have seen things online about the wheel specialist but didn't know anyone that had used them.. So nice to have more options..

I finally got around to discussing it with the person who caused the damage to the wheel gave him the two options replace the wheel or refurb the lot - they asked if I was happy to refurb and I am as 1 wheel has curb damage so I benefit also from it.

Regardless of this I did contact the local wheel specialist but wasn't too enamoured with the person, I did find a place in Crawley that seems interesting. They offered trade pricing on it since it was £45+vat each in any colour or form.

Now the choice comes as to whether to keep them the same colour or to change them, think black on black looks to pimped out. Was thinking of some darker graphite grey. Not sure.....
