Scirocco part-ex value march 2011

Post by jc74 »

Hi guys,
Just thought I'd share this with you in case it is of use to people buying and selling. I got recently was offer 18400 part-ex for my car (after pre negotiating discount on new car so should be trade value). This price is for the car to be handed in anytime before the end of march.

The spec is a march 2009 2.0tsi gt with dsg, pewter gry, sunroof, leather, sat nav, parking sensors. With scuffed alloys and a small dent behind passengers door.

I'm quite impressed by that tbh.

Good to know the residuals are holding up pretty well.

Must say I was pretty impressed too! Definitely held up percentage wise better than most other cars I've tried to trade in or sell. Only exception was my 18month old puma which only lost 1500 pounds.

thats goo, since I was looking in one of the guides (Parkers I think) and they reckon the retail is about that.....but thats perhaps for a bog standard 2009 not a nice spec one....

what's your replacement going to be Jonny

Hi,

I decided to go for a Landrover freelander 2, 190bhp xs auto. Has all the toys, though I feel the satnav will not be as good as the Vw one. But at least the car is better suited for the really bad bumps and potholes they have around here! :D

Will miss the engine sound and the look of the car but a chunky 4x4 is more suited to survive the local roads, speed bumps and supermarkets!

Hahaha you better all watch out or I'll be driving over you :D

JC: Didn't fancy a Tiguan? I'd be tempted just to have the very weird feeling "parking assist". Was thinking about swapping to a Tiguan next time, as the roads around here are crap. Not sure if the 20% drop in fuel economy, slightly poorer residuals and poorer performance outweighs buying extra tyres due to damage on the Roc.

I'd probably be £250 a year worse off on fuel and maybe £1000 a year worse off on residuals, as well as having a dearer tax disc, so save maybe £300 a year on a few extra pot-hole busted alloys. Practicality needs are a different issue though.

Bad news is that there's a big waiting list for them (Tiguans - or is that just the 140TDI Blue Motion engine 2WD variant?). Great part ex price for you though. Makes me think that maybe my May 09 140TDI GT in Pewter and parking sensors might be worth about £16,500 P/X in March/May (no alloy scuffs, tiny dent on drivers side sill which cannot be seen with door closed).

My colleague has had a Freelander 2 for 2 months and has had it back in for 8 different warranty issues already (look out for shorting heated seats blowing lots of other electrical stuff as the fuses didn't blow).

For some unknown reason the Tiguan never really made it, though there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it! For me it wasn't specifically tyre damage, more ride comfort. There's potholes now which are literally about 30cm deep around here with stones flying out of them when cars go over them!
I think vs a 2.0TSI, I'll be getting 40mpg rather than 33mpg, so will be same or cheaper for fuel, road tax is the same, insurance is about the same though ever so slightly less.
If you're curious just get a quote on your car, you never know, but I'd guess 16,500 or even a bit more wouldn't be unreasonable...

Thanks for the warning with the landrover reliability! - Sounds like I might want to move house nearer the dealer!! Will keep an eye and fingers crossed I don't get a lemon!

Potential waits for your "next" VW will probably put a lot of people off. I don't want to be putting a deposit down on a car 6 months in advance just to put an order in - how can VW give you an accurate part ex price on a car they won't get their mitts on for 6 months?

I did seriously consider a 4x4 about a month ago, just after wrecking another £155 tyre and with all the snow about. It does seem though that in the last few weeks the local councils have got their act together and filled almost all of the holes. My Scirocco seems to have had quite a large incremental increase in power and economy lately (not sure why, can't just be down to the warmer weather).

Despite the initial warranty issues, my colleague does love the Freelander, waiting only 2 weeks from order to collection was a big plus.

I saw a Candy Roc for sale on an independents forecourt today, '58' reg, manual, cloth (pano roof though!) 16000 miles on the clock for a fiver short of £20k!
