Hot burning smell???????
This only happend Saturday but I parked up at the supermarket after driving about 30miles and could smell a hot burning smell, But just thought it was some one elses car. Then i drove 2 miles to home and pulled up and could still smell it and also after turning the engine the fans were still going and kept going. My scirocco 2.0GT 140 TDI has only just done 1500 miles but oil and water temps were fine at 90. Any clues what might of happend and should i keep a eye on it??????????
Re: Hot burning smell???????
Sounds like particulate filter burning off excess - this will happen from time to time, especially if doing only short journeys in stop / start traffic.

Yes, mine has done that twice in 3000 miles, it is regen mode for the DPF. I have noticed that the tickover speed goes up slightly too when in that mode. First time it happened it was a bit of a worry, but now I know what it is, I use it as an excuse to go for a bit of a blast - "Sorry love, the car is telling me it needs to be driven harder"!
