NEW PHONE WHICH ONE?

Post by SCOTT »

I have the chance of having a new mobile phone and have been given a list of three to choose from, im looking for all the postive and negative points, and anything else you can think of which would help.

1. NOKIA N8

2. I PHONE 3GS

3. SONY ERICSONX10 MINI PRO.

i like the sound of the i phone tbh but looking forward to hearing some reviews.

dont worry about contracts and that sort of thing that all taken care off.

thanks in advance :)

Not sure about the other 2 but for the 3GS it depends how long you are keeping it. IOS5 is out in June and will be the last IOS supported by the 3GS, so in June 2012 your phone have to still run IOS5 when the iPhones4,5,6 run IOS6. Just something to think about long term if your about to sign a 2 year contract.

* note: IOS is the operating system software on the phone and is currently at version 4.2.3.

Have you thought of decoupling your phone from your contract??

I bought an iPhone 4 SIM free.
Then when contract came for renewal with Orange the other week...
Got 400mins, 1300text, unlimited landline calls, 500MB data for £10 per month including a free LG Optimus Android phone which I've flogged on Fleabay for £100quid. So the 2yr contract has cost me £5.83 per month... and I'm free to buy whatever phone I like.
If you count my ~£24 per month saving on a typical £30 per month contract where you get a decent "free" phone, that's about £570 to spend on a phone.

Anyway on the choices of phone I'd be torn between the N8 or the iPhone 3GS though iPhone would probably go ahead (my mate has the N8 and the GUI is just that bit more sluggish and not as nice) - *however* I'd scrimp and save the extra for the iPhone 4, the screen is so so much nicer and you will regret not paying the extra and getting the 3GS!!!

Otherwise for 3GS money, I'd probably buy a Nexus S instead otherwise (not on your list!)

Where did you find that deal? Is that on one of those web based sites where you have to keep claiming cashback every few months ? Quidco ?

I phoned up Orange and told them I was going to leave them, then you can haggle and agree a tariff with them. I do this every 18/24 months when my contract runs out... There are no cashbacks or funny things which need claiming, just straight normal contract at lower price.

I've posted the deal here...
