1.4TSI 160 vs Swift Sport
1.4TSI 160 vs Swift Sport
Hello All!
I currently drive a Swift Sport, I've been thinking for sometime about changing for a Scirocco, but haven't really had the funds until recently.
In an ideal world I'd buy the 2.0TSI but I'm 22, insurance will be rough, my usual commute is 45mins of stop start driving and with petrol prices getting higher and higher...its probably not the greatest idea.
So the happy medium seems to be the 1.4TSI 160, I've read various reviews online complimenting the engine and its power and others saying it's a bit weak.
My Swift is a nippy little car, especially in 1st and 2nd, but if I was to drop over 20k on a Scirocco, I'd really want it to be a good step ahead in terms of performance, especially in terms of 3rd gear pull for overtaking.
Any 1.4 160 owners out there care to share your thoughts on how it shapes up against my current trusty Swift Sport?
Thanks in Advance!
Gary

Not considered a 170 diesel?
Re: 1.4TSI 160 vs Swift Sport
I got a drive in a 123d Coupe which was pretty impressive, especially the in-gear grunt, the price put me off in the end.
Would I bet right in thinking the 170TDI's in gear acceleration wouldn't be much different to that of the 2.0TSI?

Well it def quick I can say that test drove one when I bought mine. Your best bet is to go have a test drive in the 2 models to compare. With price of fuel and mileage you may do may be worth working out the cost comparison.

or use the handy calculator on parkers that kev found previously to get abit of an ideableedsoff wrote:With price of fuel and mileage you may do may be worth working out the cost comparison.

Cheers for the feedback, That parkers link is handy, I don't do massive mileage, maybe about 12,000PA, so diesel won't have me any better off financially, but the torque would be nice haha.
Might just try and settle for a spec'd up 1.4TSi 160 with leather. Theres always a remap to fallback on I guess.
Think its getting near time to visit the stealers....

i just drove mine on the M6 Toll at around 90-100mph and felt very comfortable.
The turbo engine does in some ways, feels like a diesel, and likewise, i don't do a lot of milage, so diesel would not make sense.
furthermore, i just can't be asked to deal with those particulate filters.

i know this isnt the be all and end all (and it doesn't produce 178 bhp in the scirocco) but:

i dont think you will be disappointed with the 1.4 160 so long as you accept it as such - it isn't super fast but it is quick if you want it to be.

Cheers for that duel link, handy!
It's kinda what I'd thought, the Scirocco really has the legs on my Swift at higher speeds...
I do get the feeling I'll pine for the 210 constantly if I get a 160
But I guess I've gotta stop somewhere up the model lineup...
Its a bit of a joke they won't do the 160 in GT spec, I'd really like the 19" Lugano wheels on it

Re: 1.4TSI 160 vs Swift Sport
buy a i.4 tsi and get it remapped, it has completely changed the car and really this is how it should have left the factory, in std form the torque stays level so even if you rev it hard it doesnt feel any quicker, yet now you get the super charger boosting then at 4200rpm you get a slug of power right up to the red line, just remember to get ready to change gear because it really is that impressive.
the down side of the 1.4 is mid gear where the car feels a little flat, the car is only doing 2500rpm at 70mph youve just got to press the accelerator a little further to activate the supercharger again
fuel wise your looking at 34-36 mph round town and about 42 motorway which is way off the book figures, imagine what the real figures are for the 2.0tsi, especially at todays pump prices
