Re: Coolant
Many thanks RW1, I will investigate this as I don't think it is right. If there is a leak, it must be tiny as last time I got the low coolant warning was in Jan!

Re: Coolant
Taking my car in for coolant issue to be looked into. 2 months after topping up again, the same old "Low coolant level' appearing on the MFD, looked at expansion tank and sure enough the level has dropped well below the min mark.
Strange - I still dont see any sign of leaking.
I asked dealer if they could top it up for me, but they said I could 'buy' some G12 coolant and do it myself, hang on though, if it is leaking - that should be under warranty
Car is going in for a check next Monday!

Re: Coolant
Having put up with these low coolant warnings that have been appearing for more than a year, took car into dealer today to have it checked once and for all, and hey presto - there is a leak. So much for my thoughts of it being normal. This weekend I got under the bonnet with a torch and could see anti-freeze had collected onto the undertray.
VW want to replace water pump, hoses and most of the cooling system, quite surprising, must have been fault from new. Thank goodness it is under warranty. Still pretty shocking for a low mileage car and seemingly a rare issue.
Lets hope it is all fixed properly- hopefully, end of saga!

Re: Coolant
Yep - I seem to be the only one that experienced this, my previous 3 cars (not VW) I never had to go near the radiator. Guess this is just bad luck. VW say they have not seen this before, but I guess they would say that!182_blue wrote:my edition 30 never touched a drop of coolant, and the scirocco R hasnt either
Re: Coolant
mines leaking coolant at the moment (i think). Its not been driven since the end of Nov but i took it out to wash it on boxing day and there was a large pool of liquid in under the front (about a foot under and slightly to the passenger side). I popped some sawdust down when i put the car back in and sure enough a day or so later there was an indent in the saw dust and a slight pinky tinge to it.
VW assistance came out and pressure tested it (oddly it passed ok) and he said there was no sign of anything under there, the coolant level is ok, no warning lights have shown up on the dash but its deffo loosing something. He said it cant be steering hydraulics because they are electric and thus dry units, Oil would be obvious. He said the gear box was as dry as a bone and brake fluid is yellow/green.
Any Ideas what else it could be ?

Re: Coolant
You sure it wasn't from the air con unit. There is a drain pipe under the car which normally dumps some condensation when starting up. More noticable it hotter weather but can still do it in the cold.
If it was coolant it was losing you would have seen the coolant level drop

Re: Coolant
Could have been, there's some White paper under it now to check. Odd that it turned the sawdust pink though.
Re: Coolant
Well it's been back to the garage, was a leak on the transmission.
