Had a rather nasty bump on a downhill section today, managed to cave the lower passenger side grill type thing, dent the main bumper, cracked the diffuser and took a little chunk out of my side lights  . will probably need a new bumper, maybe side light enclosure and the little bits and bobs in between. Just wondering where you guys get your parts from, whether its worth sourcing the parts myself, then getting them all fitted and sprayed at a VW approved garage, or just take the whole bloody thing to the dealer and have them charge me 2 arms and 3 legs for the work...
In my experience quality at body shops varies tremendously, so I'd ask to see some of the cars they've just repaired before selecting where it's to go - judging on their normal performance, the local VW dealer is the last place I'd go - the best near us is an independent place, could be the same with you?
Unlucky. Thankfully it's only metal and plastic and not you as well. I don't have any experience of bodyshops but I'd be tempted just to get the VW garage to do it.

it would be worth looking into warranty, I recall something about you need to have work carried out at a VW approved garage to maintain the bodywork guarantee hopefully someone with a better memory than me can give exact details or if my mind is playing tricks.
apart from that i'd say definitely worth costing the parts (can't see you getting them anywhere other than VW) and then getting quotes for the work (with & without parts supply) from an independant and VW
My Volvo S80 seems to have a magnetic backside which attracts nitwits who have been into it three times. Each time the main Volvo dealer has been cheaper than the bucket shops, same with my daughter's Fiat Panda, so get a quote there first. If VAG are expensive, then try the biggest accident dealer in your area. You should have seen their courtesy cars flying about at times.
