*Forum Exclusive no.2* Forge Parts for Roc R

Post by Chungster »

As mentioned on the first forum exclusive, the car was sent away to a 2nd company this week for further product development on the Rocco R.

As Forge Motorsport is a sponsor on Scirocco Central it was only right that I should ask them if they wanted to borrow my car for a week to test their popular TwinTake Induction Kit and Twintercooler set ups to make sure they not only work but fit with no problems. :)

Before anything is fitted, Forge checks the car for any Fault Codes that could hinder engine performance. Luckily mine only reported problems with the passenger window and the passenger side tweeter (open circuit..so not working at all!!!) Hmmm.

When Chris the product development manager is happy with the VCDS scan, the car is taken over to their friends at PowerStation for a dyno run to set a "baseline" figure to compare with when the parts are fitted.

I won't say what the baseline figure is, but Forge thought my car was remapped :D But for info it is NOT remapped.

Anyway Forge were happy the car was running fine so product fitting was duly commenced.

The Twintercooler was relatively straight forward. Fits behind the front bumper no problem. Only slight deviation from the TSI/GTI was that the OEM Intercooler has bigger inlets/outlets than the GTI - 63mm vs 50mm. :eyepop: So the connecting hoses they had for the ED30 didn't fit. But it wasn't a problem as a new set was quickly made. :)

Then it was onto the TwinTake Induction Kit. They had already fitted this to their own Scirocco demo car so knew it should fit with not much issue. And this was duly the case.

The car was then taken back to PowerStation for the comparison dyno run.

2 runs were done - 1st with Twintercooler only, and 2nd run with TwinTake fitted whilst car was on the dyno.

The gains were good which Forge were very happy with. The Twintercooler should make a bigger difference in the summer to keep intake temps low.

With Twintercooler only, it showed a gain of 7 bhp and 4 lb/ft of torque.
With Twintercooler and Twintake, it showed a gain of 22 bhp and 15lb/ft of torque
So quick calc means the Twintake added 15 bhp / 11 lb ft of torque on its own.

So there you have it! They fit, work and perform! Just how Forge Motorsport like it.

The Twintake induction noise is noticeable but definitely not loud or intrusive whilst driving. Its certainly quieter than i expected but that's ok. It's probably a little drowned out by the Milltek exhaust in all honesty. :D

Thanks to Peter / Chris and Kev at Forge for looking after my car and making the whole process a pleasure to be involved with. I was updated pretty much every day as to what was happening on the development. :)

So there you have it R owners. More and more products now being developed for the R. I know it's already very good in stock form, but it's a performance/enthusiasts car and so there's always room to make it better.

Now the pictures.

£380 i think for twintake, £615 for twintercooler but not sure if it's available yet as the pipes are slightly different to the ED30/Cupra so they'll be making a fresh batch for the R.

your 2.0 TSI engine is very different to the one in mine.

However Forge has tested this kit on their own Roc GT a while back so its already available.

I can only comment on how it has improved on a R, and it has definitely added a bit more power along with some extra darth vadar noises. :)

was was impresssed how subtle this sounds on the R compared to having briefly driven an Ed30 with one (admitidly higher state of tune and a carbon fibre bonnet with squat didly sound insulation), chungster has a cracking car there running a stock map

By any chance do you have any vids of the exhaust noise and a picture of the engine cover with the forge twintake? Another question i have: does apr have anything for the scirocco r yet? Thanks in advance, just incase i buy the r i need to start making a list of mods.

You should stop reading my threads then  as my own thread will be updated later this week after some more mods ;)

APR can remap the R just like most other tuners really (Revo / Bluefin) as it has the same engine as the S3. So that's not a problem.

No not managed to do a vid of the exhaust noise unfortunately. But it is louder and beefier than the stock one. It's defo louder than Wigit's car anyway :D

The engine cover can't go back on unless you cut it up so no pics there. But it can' be done if you're want to retain it. Or alternatively EVOMS do one too. I'm not bothered too much by it.
