(Short) wait nearly over
Hi everyone.
I'm counting down the days and hope to pick up my 'Roc this Friday! I've cheated really as I've found a used one that's only covered 1100 miles by the dealer. Ideal really though as I don't have to pay about £800 in on the road prices! The spec is exactly what I was looking for and has a few extras. It is a candy white 1.4TSI DSG with GT spec added, parking sensors and multi-function telephone prep kit
It should be quite a change from an 8 years old Clio diesel! I cannot complain too much about the Clio though as I've just sold it in just two days, despite all the snow! I'm just a little nervous about all the snow when I pick up my 'Roc. I'm more bothered about other drivers than me - I often drive like captain Slow, lol.
After reading through the posts on here about the long, long delivery times I do feel for you and also feel very fortunate to find one out there for me with the perfect spec. I only put the deposit down two weeks ago!

Hi Candyman
congrats on managing to find one so similar to what you were wanting definitely be careful when you pick it up & watch other people captain slow is no bad thing in this weather.
& obviously goes without saying (if you still have snow it might be funny to see how camoflaged you can get it while still being recognisable )

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
I'll get some pics up soon! Basically it looks like a 2.0TSI GT. Mine does have 17" wheels but not the standard ones. Mine look very similar to the Interlagos ones but in 17" instead. I've seen these wheels on 'Rocs in Germany so I wondered if mine was an imported model. However my checks on the car don't indicate this but I'm happy anyway as they look rather nice. It's a definite bonus to have the telephony prep kit as I'm on call for work.
This week is gonna drag.....

Judging by another post, I'm getting the 17" 'Long Beach' alloys. Do these usually get supplied to UK cars?

personally I'd be open with them & ask why it doesn't have standard wheels on it, also check its a UK car & that you are getting a full manufacturer warranty (ie the remainder of 3 years since it was build) > iirc imports are only given 2 years: ah ha http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... nty#p53177" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks S - will ring today. I'll also check where I stand with my local VW dealer once I have the information. I suspect I will have the two years but I'll see how much it will be to purchase extra warranty from them (assuming I'm OK with them)!
Meanwhile I'll go through the specs with a fine toothcomb. It seems just the wheels are different to me. It also looks highly unlikely that I will be picking up this Friday in this weather! Bah!

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
Right it is an import. It sounds like I'll not get the RCD510 but get the RCD310 instead. Bah! I love the touchscreen RCD510 but may now get an RNS510 C from ebay and fit it (I've read some other posts and got a bit confused - I think I may also need a GPS receiver and an OPS PDC). I also doubt I'll have the MDI and iPod cables, which is also a pain.
The spec does include a multi-function wheen with paddle shift and a telephony prep kit (although I think there may be different versions). I also get front fog lights, parking sensors, electric foldable mirrors, tinted rear windows and dual zone climate control. I think some EU imports may not have an alarm as standard (!!!!) but this one does have one. I think Cruise Control is also fitted as standard on imports so I'll look out for this. I've not managed to find info regarding ACC for the 1.4 TSI 160 but I think this is standard worldwide.
I don't think the dealer has actually sent me the right pictures, as the spec says Donnington wheels and the pics show Long Beach. The pics also show RCD510. Oh well can sort it all out when I finally get to see it this Friday and I should be good to part with the money.
Great forum BTW - loads of useful information. I've never looked at a car in such detail before (not surprising since I've just had a Clio, lol). I was brought up on too many company vehicles. Sorry if this post should have been elsewhere - I've realised this is supposed to be for photos - I shall soundly beat the person at fault!

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
a few of these imports have sprung up, they are usually Irish sport models (I thought most that turned up were 2.0TSi's though ) I think you should be ok with regard to the ACC
I hate to rain on your parade but check you can insure an import, it may not be a problem but better to be safe
as long as you add some pics when you get it i'll let you off

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
I'm not convinced about ACC - it seems to be an optional extra in many countries. I suspected it to be a Irish spec but their product guide doesn't even mention the 1.4 TSI 160! I'll have to ask the dealer tomorrow. I definitely don't want the car if it doesn't have it. I'm not sure where I stand with the deposit though. I didn't know it was an import when I placed the deposit and his photos are misleading. I guess I could also say I cannot get insurance if I really don't want it!?

Surely you have grounds for misrepresenting what is being sold to you??candyman wrote: I'm not sure where I stand with the deposit though. I didn't know it was an import when I placed the deposit and his photos are misleading.

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
As I drive what you'd call an import - car specced and ordered in Finland - I thought I'd share something I know to be facts for new cars here. Mind you, Finland is conservative when it comes to standard equipment so for example in Ireland they may have different packages. May this help you or confuse you more... You'll anyway need to get the exact spec from the salesperson.candyman wrote:I think some EU imports may not have an alarm as standard (!!!!) but this one does have one. - Here alarm is not standard (and not even that commonly fitted in cars, people think the immobilizer and encoded keys are enough and insurance companies don't necessitate alarms)
- ACC is an optional extra regardless of engine or whether GT ("Sport" here) was specced or not.
- Cruise control - same thing
- Here the wheels you get depend on engine and whether sport package was specced.
No sport package:
1.4 TSI 122: Long Beach 7 J x 17 + 205/50 R 17
2.0 TSI: Spa 8 J x 17 + 225/45 R 17
All other engines (1.4 TSI 160 and diesels): Long Beach 7 J x 17 + 225/45 R 17
Sport package:
All engines: Donington 8 J x 17 + 235/45 R 17
Personally I think these are definitely an upgrade and the wider tyres will sit more comfortably on them. But in UK everyone else is driving with at least an inch larger wheels (Interlagos are 18"), so you may be inclined to change them soon, I don't know. Here's a pic I took of the car I test drove with the Doningtons fitted:
Good luck whichever way you go!

RW1 - Yes, but will he see it like that? I would have thought that because I can prove the photos don't match the spec then I've got a good case. Hopefully it will have ACC so this will all be academic but I just have a feel it will not have it. This is stressful!
Thanks for th info neekoh - that is what I've suspected and feared - no ACC!

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
That will be how you play it. If it were me, I would be making a point of how dissappointed I am that its not the same as I was expecting. That goes two ways, further discount or you have grounds for your deposit back. So in the back of your mind before you go in, can you live with the car and possible short falls if further discount is offered or do you ask for your deposit back on the basis of misrepresentation.candyman wrote:RW1 - Yes, but will he see it like that? !

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
Feck that was stressful! After a very long phone call I found out the car doesn't have ACC or MDI. It does have an RCD510 stereo, though the description is RCD310. I said I wanted to cancel and eventually he offered back 75% of my deposit. I just excused myself from the phone call without accepting. However, a quick call to trading standards and I found that the 'Distance Selling Regulations, 2000' covers me as I've not seen the car in person. I phone him back and as soon as I mentioned the words 'Distance Selling Regulations' he immediately backed down and 'offered' me the £250 as he didn't think it was worth bothering with. Hmm! I feel I've just had a lucky escape!
Just need to find another car now....

This is the case all over Europe, not only in Finland. It's only in \England you get more standard equipment.neekoh wrote:As I drive what you'd call an import - car specced and ordered in Finland - I thought I'd share something I know to be facts for new cars here. Not only have I tracked down another, I've also managed to get on a bus and three trains to get myself down to Kent, view it, drive it and then buy it! I'm now the proud owner of a 1.4 TSI DSG in Candy White and have driven it away. This one has loads of extras including panoramic sunroof, front fog lights, tinted rear windows, winter pack (I like the heated seats!!), folding mirrors, DAB radio, dynopack, parking sensors, multi-function wheel. Phew! It was a used but only 1500 miles. Somehow in that time the previous owner managed to damage the sill near the nearside rear wheel. But after surveying the damage from every conceivable angle I'm satisfied it is superficial damage only and not, seemingly, the reason they got rid of it so soon. The dent isn't great of course but allowed me to get the price down by another chunk and it really does look like a simple repair (especially when you know people in the trade ). The dealer claims they didn't even notice it, otherwise they would have got it repaired before advertising it. Not sure I believe them but it is very new to them and easy to miss.
It was a dream to drive home - so glad to have joined your club of happy owners now! I only dared Captain Slow speeds in this weather but still loved it!
Yes, I can tell you all about this now. We get ACC as standard on all 'Rocs except the 1.4 122bhp. Other UK standard features include the RCD 510 stereo (instead of the RCD 310) and the MDI. Our alloys seem to be different too - Donnington 17" (for 1.4 models) instead of 17"Long Beach. So watch out for imports in the UK!Crossbone wrote: This is the case all over Europe, not only in Finland. It's only in \England you get more standard equipment.
I'll post some pics up very soon, although I've noticed the car already has a layer of snow on it since parking up.

Re: (Short) wait nearly over
I'm loving the heated seats - absolutely perfect in this weather. I picked up the car on Friday with 1500 miles on the clock. Really happy with all the optional extras but more than that the way it drives. The DSG seems great too.
Just one question - are the red calipers a standard feature? I don't think I've seen them mentioned anywhere...even as an optional come to think of it.
