It is pretty much ALWAYS the bottom seal that stops the glass dropping.
Twice in the last couple of days mine havn't dropped, bit of warm water along the bottom edge and away it goes.
Christ knows what you lot are doing to your seals to get enough water on them to make the door stuck closed......
Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
i am 100% with Andy-GTI on this that the main issue on the roc is the window freezing to the seal on top of the door, other seals can seal but this is the biggest issue on a day to day basis

Living next to a damp field with drifting mist. Monday, the frost was like snow , 2cm thick on the car. But like you say, some luke warm water does the trick.Andy-GTI wrote:Christ knows what you lot are doing to your seals to get enough water on them to make the door stuck closed......

All rubber around my door has been treated :-) , we will see, I don't doubt the bottom glass seal is an issue, I also think the side rubber on the window edge is a problem too after i Checked on a frozen morning the other day, of course this gets defrosted when you sort the bottom bit that is pretty much ALWAYS the real problem

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Winter wheels and tyres delivered yesterday. 16" black steel with Yokohama W.Drive 205/55 16H tyres. Planning to have them on the car December to the middle of March.
Now do I get some wheel trims or do I keep the wheels 'au naturel'

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Hello everyone,
This is the first winter for me on the road, and as I come from a rather tropical country I really have no idea how the notorious British winter could affect cars on the road....I see a few posts talking about fitting winter tyres, I am wondering do they really make driving considerably safer? (I am guessing the answer to this perhaps relates to which parts of the country you live in, in my case it would be the south-east) and if so, what tyres would you recommend?
Many thanks in advance
Brian

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Regarding the windows i'd advise just getting one of those car covers for the top half of the car from halfords or wherever. Saves time scraping, saves any problems with the windows freezing and not dropping down

VW part G 052 172 A1 (Krytox GPL105 oil 30ml) from my local stealer dealer does seem to be awfully expensive at some £38.89 + VAT - does anyone happen to know of a cheaper supplier? I'm only needing one bottle!

VW part G 052 172 A1 (Krytox GPL105 oil 30ml),
EBAY - search under "VW EOS ROOF SEAL LUBRICANT", but it seems to becoming popular by the current auction running. I paid £10 each for mine a while back. Not any more by the looks of it.
That said, this Ebayer is selling it under the Rover part number CYK100050L, same lubricant. Maybe he will put up another auction soon???
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Window-Channe ... 0399178592" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Note: Its a 10ml bottle, not 30ml. I think stocks are limited though so you will have to search for it elsewhere.
Bear in mind applying it is sparingly. I apply one "rain drop" on my finger and run it along a seal length for 25cm and rub it in. It shouldn't be applied like jam!

RW1 - the Ebayer is up-and-running again selling Krytox under Car Window Channel Lubricant - the Rover 10ml product, but hey at £3.25 I can afford 3 and still have plenty of change from what the stealers would have taken - many thanks again.

I think the Ebayer is only putting up 10 for sale at a time - I gather he might well have more available - it's well worth phoning the contact number if it seems the listing has come to an end.

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
how many cars do you need to treat blue?!
Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Well I'm not relying on the rubber spray keeping the windows from freezing cos this morning they didn't drop! Thought I had buggered the motor too but luckily the auto window up on closing door started working again. Phew.

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Yeah I had my first window incident this morning. Luckily I had seen this thread so was semi-prepared but had a minor panic when I stupidly pulled the door open even though the window hadn't dropped fully. The door did open but then I couldn't close it again! Managed to firmly push the door/window back into the seal, de-ice, wait a bit and just try the door handle a few times to prompt the window and wait until it was happy!
Defo taking some warm water out tomorrow.......

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Anyone know of a decent cover for the top part of the scirocco, i.e mainly the windscreen and the side windows ?
Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner
Garage! Or is that full of wheels?
Not helping much!
But seriously steer clear of covers, even small roof only ones, they will get gritty and cause marring on the paint over time.
