Scirocco pulls left
Scirocco pulls left
My Scirroco 2.0 140 GT which I have owned for just 6 weeks appears to be pulling slightly left on straight roads. Therefore needs compensating by steering right, say by 5 degrees, which is a bit irritating.
I have taken to the dealer who arranged a technician to sit with me whilst I drove. The results of the test were that it was probably the camber of the road doing it. I do a lot of A road driving normally at about 60-70 mph most days.
Has anyone else encountered this before I go back to the dealer?
thanks
M

Re: Scirocco pulls left
I have experienced this loads with my new roc
I've put it down to road camber, incline and low profile tyres.
Tested it on a completely level smooth road with no pulling at all.

Re: Scirocco pulls left
Yes mine kinda does - well it doesn't pull left as such but I do feel I'm steering slightly right as you say to keep it straight. I'm not 100% sure if it's the steering wheel not proper straight (there's another thread on this) or the tracking maybe. Taking mine in for a service this week and I've mentioned it. They'll probably say road camber too.
Re: Scirocco pulls left
It would be interesting to hear the results from your service. Im tempted to go for an wheel alighment, however could be a waste of money!
Thanks

Re: Scirocco pulls left
Mine does exactly the same. I don't think its anything I've done as I avoid bumping up kerbs & stuff. But things can be bend slightly from pot holes. etc.
I have to say though that I've had this with nearly every car I've owned, none of them brand new before. From experience of trying to correct this before. The angle its at is to little to just simply remove the steering wheel & move it one spline over. The track rod ends would have to be adjusted using a laser alignment tool or similar. I suspect VW wouldn't do anything under warranty (camber of road). I will mention it when mine goes in for a service as well just in case its something more dangerous like a defect part.
However I'm guess that because theses cars are built in Europe they are set up to drive on the other side of the road hence the slight compensation in the steering as the camber of the road would be on the other side. Anyone else think this?
Perhaps someone with a Europe mainland car could confirm this for us?

Re: Scirocco pulls left
i thought the pull on mine was excessive two years ago when mine arrived and dealer did adjust it, think a few more people from aroudn that time had similar issues.

It might be worth comparing which tyre Manufacturer & Tyre name(s) pull and which don't.
Mine don't, Bridgestone Potenza's.

Here lots of scirocco owners are complaining that their cars pull right!stuaz wrote:I doubt that very much.Luke wrote:However I'm guess that because theses cars are built in Europe they are set up to drive on the other side of the road hence the slight compensation in the steering as the camber of the road would be on the other side. Re: Scirocco pulls left
Mine doesn't 'pull' as such but the steering wheel definitely needs to be a few degrees to the right to drive in a straight line. I am very conscious of the car tramlining on bad roads but I presume that's more to do with the width if the tyres.

Re: Scirocco pulls left
Mine seems to pull slightly to the right when the steering wheel is straight, ive had the car 2weeks, but I thinks it's a safety thing or road camber,

This, for me too.
Re: Scirocco pulls left
One year on, my first service arrived and mentioned about the pulling. The garage checked the alignment of the wheels which was okay and confessed the steering wheel was not aligned, which has now been corrected. Car now goes in a straight line!

Re: Scirocco pulls left
The way to test if it's the road camber or the car is to find a quiet stretch of road and drive on the wrong side of it! If it still pulls the same way it's the car, if it pulls the opposite way then it's the camber. Simples
