An unscientific survey – Any Scirocco breakdowns

Post by mrbojangles »

There is no science to this really, but as we have a collection of Scirocco owners, I thought it may be interesting to find out how many (if any) have ever had theirs breakdown and what the cause was.

I'm talking a breakdown due to mechanical issues, not a collision/accident, or something like running out of petrol :p

As the current Scirocco's on the road will still be quite young (and as generally VW have a good reliability reputation), I’d hopefully expect the figure to be low.

Purely out of interest, rather than concern!

Surely we should get a more detailed survey going?? How about putting time into the equation on the poll? Same questions as already asked but have sub sections for 0-6months / 7months-18months / 18months+.

Could be a quite valuable thread in the end.

Yep, accelorator pedal switch on mine is faulty and pops up the EML every few weeks. Turn car off and back on and it goes away. Quite a common thing according to dealers who re-terminate the cable at the throttle body end so they can pull a bit more through inside the car which stops the fault as the cable is slightly too short!

300 miles and one week old, the engine went due to a faulty oil seal in the turbo.

Johno here,

See my discussion re engine problems. There appears to be a major issue developing with engine problems, a ticking noise from the region of the air con unit appears to be an indication of this problem, misfiring, suddering on acceleration when engine cold :grumpy:

Ah 4 days old - same problem.

Wonder if they're the same batch. Mine's going in on Friday. Do you know what the issue with yours is / was? It may help me get mine back faster from Derby.

It's a fault. An a fault is a defect. I'm a manufacturing man and these things come back and bite.

A fault yes, but not a mechanical breakdown (which is what the OP asked for), but it doesn't matter now....

Back on track - the two Scirocco's I've had, have had no issues. *touch wood*

Driving it to Belgium this week so that should be a good test :D

i did consider this before posting... but what swayed it is the fact the horn wont work and for that reason the dealer retained it and suggested it is unfit for road use (whilst it is primarily electrical am sure theres a relay in there somewhere... tenuious  )...therefore breakdown???
