Dealer paint protection vs Bird poo

Post by Manno »

Hello all

My pearl black car got pooed on yesterday and by the time i got it home to clean it, the purple berried poo had burnt throught the clearcoat! Had to get my mate to come round with his electric polisher and a myriad of polishes to sort it. It had a dealer £150 paint protection on too....supposedly??
Not worth the money at all.
Nice car though. Had a RX8 previously.

I can't believe the dealers still say it protects against bird lime, TBH the protection is OK if put on correctly but no better than you putting a decent coat of wax on yourself

I'm surprised the bird crap went through the clear coat of a metallic/pearl paint job - the clear lacquer coat is pretty inert to acids (not against brake fluid or thinners), bird lime mainly causes surface fading/discolouration of solid colour paintwork rather than eating through the paint. You sure it wasn't an Alien Xenomorph bleeding all over your car?

I have never used them but just a thought....as they are a 'wipe' does it not involve rubbing the bird lime which is contrary to good advice of not rubbing? Assuming it isn't wiped off immediately which as we know isn't always possible.

It could have been an Alien Xenomorph! More likely some new mutant species of Herring gull created by Hartlepool's Nuclear power station.
