Scirocco R with DSG and remap
Hi all,
Due to take delivery of my scirocco R in week 46 at present. Has anyone with a DSG R had a remap if so could you please advise which one, effects/benefits and costs...
Cheers

Cost is £406 with forum discount. Takes power (they quote) from 265bhp to 308bhp..
Wel see :-D! Still got a bit to go to keep up with Dad's RS6 though :-( lol at least my car is prettier!

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
Power is good! definately an improvement over the standard car. Its a bit more inclined to torque steer on a hill or anything wet under 60mph but copes well. The car isnt quite as smooth though, on changes I think the gear change under accelleration needs improvement. As the next gear is put in the car is on original boost, a very short split second later the full boost of the remap floods in and you take off again. Not a problem really as the original boost is still massive, just a bit less smooth...

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
what is physiclaly different bout the Rs' engine to the GT 210 unit? I thought VW had just mapped it themselves?
This can't be the case if you can get over 300 bhp from it after remapping yourself?!

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
It's a completely different engine which is also found in the s3, Leon cupra r and the golf edition 303t3p wrote:what is physiclaly different bout the Rs' engine to the GT 210 unit? I thought VW had just mapped it themselves?

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
Like has been mentioned. Its a re-worked Golf GTI mk5 engine thats the same in the S3, commonly known as the S3 engine in fact. Its got a bigger intercooler, different turbo, new cams and larger exhaust system as part of the goodies to make this power over the GTI. This is why it can so easily take 300+bhp.3t3p wrote:what is physiclaly different bout the Rs' engine to the GT 210 unit? I thought VW had just mapped it themselves?

On another note Ive recently spoken to SC about the slight hesitation on gearchange and found I have the Manual map. The DSG one runs much better and has no lag at all. Although feels slightly less powerful, its still really suited to this car/engine. Runs great now.
Because the DSG changes so fast, unfortunately, the turbo is lagging with all that extra power (more power = more potential for turbo lag, see EVO FQ400 driven by Jeremy Clarkson for explaination). SC have honed it back only very slightly to still give the awesome change but with more boost in a smooth manner. The Torque rating of the 'Roc DSG box doesnt come into this if anyone was wondering. The manual map can be left on for a more raw and slightly interupted but more powerful experience, although in my opinion defeats the idea of the DSG box being so smooth from stock. Just for clarification the accel doesnt stop, making the DSG useless, just lags a split second with 50-75% boost before the mega boost :-)
Hope this helps!!
Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
in reality lag has never been an issue mapped or unmapped on this engine for me its getting used to the boost threshold is around 2.5k which means if you let the revs drop below this mapped or unmapped you get caught with your trousers round your ankles, i drive our K04 Golf very differently to the 2.0TSI Rocco as the K04 produces peak power around 6.5K whereas the TSI runs out of steam around 5.2K

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
I think someone needs to read up what causes turbo lag and why the FQ400 suffered from it.
As for mega boost.... I would say the SC map doesn't run anything more than 0.2 bar more than the standard OEM boost of the R. It's only an extra 20-30bhp after all.
If you think it runs "Mega boost" then you don't really know much about turbo cars in general.
Enjoy your R in anycase.

Lag isnt present on the "R".. over 300bhp its there though.wigit wrote:in reality lag has never been an issue mapped or unmapped on this engine for me its getting used to the boost threshold is around 2.5k which means if you let the revs drop below this mapped or unmapped you get caught with your trousers round your ankles, i drive our K04 Golf very differently to the 2.0TSI Rocco as the K04 produces peak power around 6.5K whereas the TSI runs out of steam around 5.2K

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
I have same map and dont have issues with lag, oh and I can't believe superchips are sill either sending out the wrong map or are at least pretending that's what they have done !!

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
New DSG map has no lag on it and runs much better on gearchange. Its definately not as out and out powerful but a more smooth experience :-D... I agree though, should have had it from the beginning. As we speak SC are working out a new map for me which gives the extra punch but no lag *apparently* :-D182_blue wrote:I have same map and dont have issues with lag, oh and I can't believe superchips are sill either sending out the wrong map or are at least pretending that's what they have done !!

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
I only mention this as when i had the edition 30 they told me twice they had given me the DSG map when i had a manual !, even though i told them i had a manual, when i swapped the bluefin to the R i asked over and over and over to ensure i got the DSG map
, anyway let me know if when you get a new map, i will be interested to see if they offer it out, do remember though the boost does only come in at about 2500rpm on the K04 turbo, the bigger the turbo the slower the initial pick up
PS, when you say working on your map, do they have your car, or have they even seen it ?

Re: Scirocco R with DSG and remap
Not seen the car, they are looking at the map there.. The manual map had a half second wait when the gear changed until the boost kicked lol!!! Was punchy though!182_blue wrote:I only mention this as when i had the edition 30 they told me twice they had given me the DSG map when i had a manual !, even though i told them i had a manual, when i swapped the bluefin to the R i asked over and over and over to ensure i got the DSG map, anyway let me know if when you get a new map, i will be interested to see if they offer it out, do remember though the boost does only come in at about 2500rpm on the K04 turbo, the bigger the turbo the slower the initial pick up

I reckon DSG map somewhere between 290-300bhp based on the manual performance... (if the manual kicked 310bhp etc)

This is a most enlightening discussion!!!!
