Hi,
I understand that to get an iPod to work with the Roc you need a cable which should be supplied with the car, yes?
The only cable I have plugs into a port in the armrest and has a USB connection on the end. If I plug my iPod (via its standard cable) into this USB cable then I get the message "Media not recognised" (or similar) on the dash.
Should what I'm doing work?
Is something broken?
Am I missing the relevant cable?
Thanks for your help with this.

Re: iPod cable?
Hi JB,
You require the VW iPod cable. The cable you have is designed to plug USB sticks, generic MP3 players and USB hard drives in. You should have had two cables supplied with the car free-of-charge (well, included in the cost of the car).
See this link for more info, and get onto your dealer for the cable you are owed!

Re: iPod cable?
Hi JB
no nothing is broken
yes you are missing the correct cable, you should only be using the one VW cable (MDI to IPOD) no apple cables should be used in the car for this purpose as (as I understand it) its abit like using a piece of cabling attached to a piece of string to provide power to something, the cables don't speak the same language.
I am assuming you went for the secondhand Opal Silver you were offered in the end so it is likely the previous owner lost it. Unfortunately this most likely means you will have to buy another one unless you feel up to trying to bully the dealer into giving you one as it would have been with the car from new (risky, depends how bullish you are) otherwise give AdamJ a shout here in buy & sell as his may still be for sale from when he sold his car, its a bargin compared to the £18 I believe VW charge.
If you did order a car or the Opal was an ex demo from the dealership then this should have been collected from the parts department and put in the car during PDI so its their laziness not getting it & putting it in the car.
People have had loads of ridiculus excuses recently on why its not in the car; "oh its not free sir, you have to go & buy one", "you can go & collect your complimentary ipod lead from the parts department for a limited time after collecting the car" etc I can not reinforce this enough for everyone that is going to collect their cars in the future THE IPOD LEAD IS SUPPOSED TO COME WITH THE CAR YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT IT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE CAR DO NOT ACCEPT LAZY DEALER EXCUSES
obviously not all dealers are the same but
the MDI to USB cable is for connecting USB sticks loaded with music, MP3 players with USB connectors & USB harddrives
