Seatbelts

Post by sted9923 »

Hi all,

Stupid question of the day, but has anyone else got slightly different seatbelt designs on each side of their car? Mine's a '10 model from build week 15, and on each side the little piece on the belt that stops the buckle from falling to the floor is different:

Same on mine, Wk43 / 2009.

The design assumption is that you won't always have a passenger on board. The seat belt folded & stitched in the passenger one is to prevent rattling against the side trim. The stud isn't there because it isn't required to keep the buckle where the passenger can get hold of it. The folded belt does the job.
The assumption on the driver's side is that the driver is always present! and wearing the seat belt. So the stitched folded belt bit isn't required. Production cost saving in seat belt manufacture I suppose.

Try driving with out it on and you will soon know you haven't got it on,... because it rattles.

Thats actually pretty clever.

Funny to think some VW bod was sat there one day, designing seat belts, n thought..."you know what really annoys me when im driving..."
