Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
As above really.
Is this normal for the Dunlop Sport 01 (235/40 R18) to only last less than 16,000 miles?
Front right at 3mm - Front Left just under 2mm.
Cheers
Rob

I've got 11k on the clock and I don't have too much left on the fronts either. I'll probably need a new set by Xmas. Sounds about right.

I got around 15,000 from the same tyres Robbie so it sounds about right. You going to get the same ones again or try something different?

That sounds good to me LOL, my previous cars have only managed about 6-8k for front tyres

I averaged 35,000 miles out of a front set of Michelins on my old Mk4 Golf and Audi A3. The Rocco has Contis all round, which is not a tyre I would normally bother with. If they wear at the same rate as you guys are quoting, I'll be replacing them with Michelins.

Re: Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
Surprised at some of these figures! My Scirocco (bought secondhand) has 14500 miles on it and still appears to be on the original tyres, which have lots of life left in them. Although in my other car (a Lotus) it would be easy to toast a set of rear tyres in sub 4000 miles...

Re: Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
I used to get 22,000 miles out of my MK5 Golf GT before the fronts were close to the legal limit, and i've had 2 knacked tyres on the Roc (puncture and sidewall bulge), so despite my car having done 12k miles, the fron't only have 4k wear on them.
15k miles does seem a little low on life, but not stupidly low. I wonder how tyre wear compares across the engine range - most people with a 2.0TSI on this thread seem to be getting around 15K.

I use the Boxster to try hard, the Rocco is my mileage munching transport.182_blue wrote:Your really not trying hard enoughmike-p wrote:I averaged 35,000 miles out of a front set of Michelins on my old Mk4 Golf and Audi A3. Re: Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
Wow, just been phoned by Arnold Clark VW at Jordanhill, Glasgow to say that they've finished doing my 1st service - but they've also replaced my front tyres after only 8,900 miles! Good job it's a lease car I guess - both the back tyres have already been changed due to punctures.
It came with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres which were excellent, but obviously not up to the demands of enthusiastic driving on shitey Scottish roads!

Re: Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
Just managed to get 7,800 miles out of my fronts, they were Continental Sport Contacts. Needless to say I wont be getting those again and I've now changed my route to work to a more boring, flatter, straighter route!!
Rocc on!

Re: Need new front tyres @ 15,700 miles!?!?
8000 miles from a set of fronts is shocking, unless it's uneven wear due to an alignment issue. Unless you're a weekend drag racer, i'd expect upwards of 15,000 miles from a set of front tyres and 35,000 on the rears (if you don't swap them around).
You may not get the chance to do 8000 miles anyway before they're damaged by this winters batch of potholes. The roads around me are in a far worse state now than they were this time last year, and last winter's potholes caused me 2 wrecked tyres (sidewall bulge). If the roads don't improve then i'll have to trade in for a Nissan Qashqai

lol mine still have some life left at 11k miles and that has included plenty of enthusiastic driving!
i would seriously get your alignment and geometry checked if your fronts needed changing at less than 9k miles!! its not right.
mine are Dunlop GT Sport Maxx's btw.

with the weather getting cold now, softer rubber may not be a bad thing, eventhough it contributes to early wearing.

I'm afraid my fronts are also close to being changed. My R arrived with Bridgestones and now done 10k.
BTW - I do occasionaly switch ESP off which does mean the fronts spin up a bit
