Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
I think these 'electronic LSDs' might just be EDL programmed to keep working at higher speeds, and the car just has a standard open diff, not totally sure but it think that's all the mini gets now, there used to be a helical diff on the options list but no more. If so, it might be possible for some electronically adept person to add this feature to the 'rocco, if it's just a programming computer related thingemy.

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
I think the MkIV looks great, not seen the GTI obviously but looking around standard one in the dealers it's a huge improvement on the anonymous blob that the MkV was. It's much sharper in the metal than the MKV with elements of Scirocco in the front end. The new GTI will be a great car, you don't need a crystal ball to know that, but i'd rather have my Scirocco. (i don't need 5 doors, and i'd take the Scirocco over the 3 door GTI personally, engine and interior update or not, the 'roc already has a great engine and interior IMO)
Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
ive got a deposit on the MK6 GTI looking at delivery early summer, May/June the delaer expects
Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
They will be as common as a Ford focus in a very short time.
Still a nice car!

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
surpised me that vw only made 17,630 mk v gti for the uk no doubt due to there being no diesel to dilute the brand like the mkiv

True but the Mk4 was on sale for two years longer than the MK5andy wrote:surpised me that vw only made 17,630 mk v gti for the uk no doubt due to there being no diesel to dilute the brand like the mkiv
Mk IV: 1998 – 2004
* 1.8-litre 125 PS
* 1.8-litre turbo 150 PS
* 1999 – 2.0-litre 115 PS is introduced
* 2002 – 1.8-litre turbo 180 PS and 1.9-litre GTI PD 150 PS engines introduced
* Total UK Mk IV GTI sales: 46,944
That and I notice being VW(UK) sales that they've also counted the 'UK only special edition' 2.0L 115bhp version that was only a GTi in badge alone because VWUK stuck them on when it arrived in the country. Everywhere else in Europe it was sold it as 'highline' spec! Whoever made that call to try and flog high spec standard golf's as GTi's should have been sacked
Back on track the new GTi looks OK IMO but even with an electronic diff and the new 2.0T 210bhp engine it's not enough to tempt me away from the Scirocco! It'll be really interesting to see how they price the new MK6 GTi in comparison to the old one and the Scirocco. I'm guessing it'll be slightly more than the equivalent Scirocco what with the new engine so probably around £21k.

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
i'm toying between one of these and a roc and whether i wait for the r20t in either, looks are a grower lets be honest we all hated the roc when we first saw it, GTI has its own style, only thing putting me off the models don't look that different from the 2.0TSI GT
Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
Drove a normal mk6 the other day and it really feels like a big step up from the mk5. Made me thinking about maybe getting a gti instead of a scirocco, but the new golf just looks so dull...

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
I wasn't a massive fan of the IROC concept mainly because of the daft OTT looking grill but I was sold as soon as I saw the production model with the W12 Golf inspired grill/bumper! Loved it from the moment I saw it!dangermouse wrote: lets be honest we all hated the roc when we first saw it..

Pics from Geneva:
No competition at all I think. Scirocco any day of the week unless you have kids and are forced to get a 5 door GTI.

Got to admit, I love that! Seeing it in actual photos, as opposed to computer images, it looks gorgeous. But for the exclusivity (there will be less on the roads I'm sure), I will still get a Scirocco!

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
I'm not a fan of the big rear lights and I think it looks a little slab sided. Some clever visual trickery though to try and hide that. Pushing the lights and exhausts out to the edges gives the impression that it's wider and lower than it really is.

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
still can't make my mind up which way to go, i like how they have integrated the fogs on the GTI, toureg rear lights are the only thing that lets it down, gti also has the e-diff which will no doubt work its way to roc come nip and tuck time

you can now configure your mark 6 gti and orders can be placed with cars due to start being delivered end of May, disappointed by the options and the price, scirocco looks even more of a bargain against the 3 dorr GTI, ACC is an option on the GTI and comes with 17s as standard and same colour choice as before (no rising blue), a few people have specced theres and are hitting the £30k bracket (wince)

Re: Mk 6 Golf GTI
Yeah I was thinking the same thing last night. I specced one up to the same price I paid and I was still short of leather seats and the trick suspension which would have added another £2000 or so. Steep.
