Sorry if this has been raised but I've ordered a standard spec 1.4 TSI 160.I didn't opt for the multifunction wheel but now I'm wondering if you get a different more basic computer if you don't go for the multifunction?
Anyone tell me if the computers are different and if so which is better and why? Also I'm getting a DSG so if I did tag the multifunction wheel on I'd get the paddles.
Does anyone rate them or are they just gimmicks and is the multifunction worth the upgrade?

the MF steering wheel is not the be all and end all i think. It would be useful if you have the handfree phone option ordered, otherwise its just some extra buttons to control the stereo. The stereo panel is only some 10cm away, so its not like you have to reach far to adjust the volume.
The computer lets you select how bright the footwell light you want, what kind of door lock setting you want. Some fuel consumption readouts.
Interesting things but won't set the house on fire if you know what i mean.
The paddle shifts give a different way of gear shifting. For me, it can be useful but it can be really annoying. the paddles themselves i find them too hidden behind the spokes. Much prefer the banana shaped aluminium ones like those in a ferrari.
I had it because i am a sucker for all things gadget. so you have to ask yourself, how much can you live without gadgetry?

The added benefits of the Highline seem limited so I willstick with the standard wheel and computer.

FWIW I think the LCD-esque display of the Midline computer is far sharper than the font used in Highline which looks jagged and low resolution by comparison. Also, when I test drove a Roc with the MFSW I found the buttons felt cheap, out of character with the rest of the controls.
The only downside I've found is that the volume knob on the RCD510 is on the passenger-side of the unit so it's a bit of a reach but you get used to it.

There is also something a bit 'raw' about just having the steering wheel looking plain and without buttons...looks a bit more 'racing' than having your volume control button on it!

I've got a MFSW on my current Golf and I only use it to change the comp occasionally but it's still useful. TBH I use it more for the stereo volume.
I've seen two different versions of the MFSW in Rocs too.One is like the one in my MkV Golf which looks quite subtle and the other is more like the standard Roc wheel and has a phone button.

with the midline computer you use the windscreen washer stalk buttons to scroll through the mpg, winter tyre mode, & a few other things i can't remember at the mo (about half a dozen in total) which is dead easy. you just can not change anything like you can with the highline & MFSW
