Snow foam?

Post by fun meter »

I've got a Karcher, Lance and auto perfections snow foam mix. I've tried about 4 times now to get a foam like result, but have had no luck. First two times I stuck with recommendations (i think 15-30ml) of product and fill rest with water. How ever open or closed the valve was, it still came out very watery (almost clear). So the last two times I've tried different mixes, both of which have failed. I've ended up putting like 80ml of product, and it comes out like a white slime textured water. Its better, and gets a bit of the dirt, but its not foamy at all and doesnt really stick to the car.

Anyone have any suggestions?

just to clarify are you using the standard pressure washer lance or a snow foam specific lance?

Are you diluting the snow foam mixture with cold water, if so try using luke warm water. I've not had any issues with snow foam, always found it really good.

I use the Auto Rae-Chem's Cherry Snow Foam, 100ml product in the 1 litre water bottle, sticks well. Neighbours still give me strange looks!

Cheers for the replies. Have been using warm water. I've got a karcher k680i, not sure if it has the ability to change the settings. I'll have a look. Cheers for pointing that out.

Hi Fun Meter,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with the snow foam... sorry for a million questions that are coming, but I want to try and find out if the problem is with the lance or the snow foam so here goes:

Have you tried changing the settings on the lance itself? You've mentioned opening and closing the valve, and I'm guessing from that you mean that you've changed the dial on the top of the foam lance? Have you tried adjusting the nozzle to alter the spray pattern? To do this, twist the nozzle clockwise or anti-clockwise. If you've got the nozzle set so that it's firing in a jet-spray i.e a straight jet of water, then you won't produce as much foam as you would do if you had the nozzle set to a wider fan-spray. We've found that a fan width of around one foot, achieves the best results.

Alternatively, have you tried using any other product in the foam lance? If you've got an alternative snow foam you can put through the lance, it might help to determine whether the problem is with the lance or the product. To be honest, it's more than likely going to be an issue with the foam lance rather than the snow foam, as we have it made specifically for us to our own formula, which means that each bottle should be the same. Having said that though, you never know, so if you've want to send the lance and the snow foam back to us you're more than welcome to. We can have a look at the lance for you to make sure that there's no issue with that, and we'll make sure the snow foam formula is correct and get you another litre of that sent out.

Hope this helps

Taryn and Jim :)

HI
I also had problems getting the correct snow foam effect.
May I suggest that you put about an Inch of snow foam in the bottom of the bottle and fill with water the rest .... attach lance to pressure washer set the lance closed all the way clock-wise and then turn anti-clockwise to about “seven o’clock” ...... hold the pressure washer lance upside down and start to spray the lance will start to make a hissing sound keep holding the trigger in and turn the right way up ...... and snow foam away....

p.s. will post some picture of the foam next time wash my car and for extra cleaning effect add a little dodo juice born to be mild in the mixture a cap full is normally enough...

Cheers for the replies.

I've played with the spray pattern and nozzle quite a bit. I managed to get an okay result, but it still came out like a thicker slime than foam (which lifted a bit of dirt), but doesnt really stick to it (thus not lifting much dirt).

Could it be that the pressure washer is just too strong? This K680i we have is quite a beast. But im not sure if the pressures are fairly universal amongst the range?

I dont doubt the snow foam as I can see it working a bit (with the above), I think its the setup I have. Its like its not getting enough air into the mix to get it to foam?

I will try holding it upside down before starting and post how it goes. Plan to clean car on Friday / Saturday.

Thanks again for the help AP and Madfixer.

Tried it again today. Unfortunately holding it upside down before didnt help. How ever much I fiddled with the adjustments, all I got was a very watery mix.

The best result I seem to be getting is with the valve at the top shut, so it is mainly using the stuff in the bottle. I mean its alright, but its not as foamy as I thought I should be. The photo below is off my phone. Have to zoom in on a photo to see the effect because its a white car.

Bit watery / slime like compared to this;

Cant seem to get enough air into the mix to make it foamy, any ideas?

Hi Fun Meter,

Thanks for posting up a picture - you're right... the foam you're getting out of your lance definitely isn't the same as the foam you should be getting.

I think the best thing to do is send it back to us so that we can have a look at it for you and if needs be, replace it for you.

Let me know if you need to address. Just one thing though - could we ask that you send it recorded delivery please. There is someone within the local post office team that has figured out what we do and anything that comes through for the attention of Autoperfection that isn't recorded, goes missing. :grumpy:

Sorry we couldn't be more helpful! Hopefully we'll manage to get it sorted out for you though :)

All the best

Taryn
