Scirocco offer £20,348...take it or leave it?

Post by arsenalman »

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome!.

I went to my VW dealership today and was offered a brand new (0 miles, pre-reg) Black Scirocco 2.0 TSI DSG with standard spec and 17" wheels not 18"!

The list price was £22,164 and the dealer is now offering me £20,348 with 5% APR Hire purchase over 3 years. The options initially wanted were cruise control, park sensors and elec. mirrors, which can all be fitted by the dealer (except for mirrors) at an extra cost. NOW is this a good deal compared to what you guys have been offered? And if i do accept this deal what other things should i request as part of the deal i.e. mats, fuel anything else?

P.S. The salesman said he was prepared to improve the deal if i buy, so the next time i see him to complete i really want to squeeze every possible thing he can offer me so please help!!!

Cheers guys

Its not a bad deal at all, if you have a look on autotrader at used rocs, (reasonably well specced but with 3000 miles or more), a DSG is still going for over 24 Grand! Holding their money pretty damn well - as expected. So from list minus the £600 that Mr Brown has given us you're still getting over a grands worth of saving (Think thats bang on dealer margin). I cant see them dropping the price too much more than that - but if you dont ask . . . .

Things I'd consider would be that you're going to be the second owner (I know its not a big deal but tell the salesman you think it is!)
The time of year - they're wanting to get rid of as much as possible at this time of year never mind the current economic climate.
You're going to get a new car so much quicker than the rest of us poor SOB's as this wait seems to get longer and longer!!

I'd be looking at going in there to get the best price possible on your trade in (If you've got one). Not sure what room they have for offering a better APR on the finance but that might be an option. Get as much thrown in as possible - Mats, Road tax, full tank of fuel (Had my guy tell me he couldnt offer me a full tank - that'll change if I have to wait longer than 20 weeks!!!!) And of course - price up the retro fits and demand they agree to a price on that before you sign on the dotted line.

In terms of the deal I got in November, apart from the tax cut and the dealer margin drop I got more or less the same discount as is being offered to you (Might be 200 quid more actually!) - I only got the mats and the Road Tax thrown in for nowt - He just wouldnt budge on the full tank (but we'll see about that). Priced up the same car on an internet broker and they can do it for even less now - But Thats just one of those things I suppose!

Other than that good luck and let us know how it all goes. All the best mate

The finance rate seems very good. i have only managed to find 6.9 % APR so far. If you could ask the question of your dealer i would appreciate knowing where he was sourcing this finance rate from? Surely it can't be VW solutions at this low rate, it must be an independant provider? I am due to collect my car next week but have not finalised my finance so any advice on this would be great!

There seems to be a few of the 2.0 TSI with 17's on the trader also, technically as they don't have the 18's they differ from the UK GT specification. Not sure how something like this may effect resale value? It certainly sounds like a good value motor, but it's a buyers market at the minute. It may be worth short listing a few of the autotrader and VW website and cold calling them. You may get a better spec car for the same sort of money.

Best of luck!

doesn't seem like a bad deal. A few people on here are changing their wheels so you should be able to pick up a set of 18s with delivery miles, or you could always see if the dealer can offer you some different wheels at cost price? (mmm 19s) worth a try :)

Ultimately it just depends what your willing to sacrifice to get the car now and beat the waiting list. your parking sensors will be audible but will not appear on the dash display if you get dealer fit, and like you said you cant have the mirrors fitted.

Personaly i went for a higher spec than planned in order to get what i wanted. Might be worth doing that if your getting a big discount?

If you're considering buying pre reg, buy used. I got a black 2.0TSI GT DSG with leather, panaramic roof and winter pack for £21K and that was a couple of months ago so you'll be able to pick one up for not more than £20K, saving thousands off list.

My car had 800 miles on it, even had that new car smell......

I wouldn't buy one of these with the 17" wheels....

i'm assuming this is not a GT spec given the 17s so may struggle, lets be honest they lose 15% as soon as you drive out the door given VAT alone, no doubt a dealer can reclaim the VAT on a car registered, so if they are selling it for any more than the net amount they are making money over and above a new car sale, the current crunch means they can't milk owners who do not want to wait 16 weeks with high dealer demo prices, also remember guys what you may currently be driving are lsoing money fast too, think you got to look at the 2-3 year on values when most would begin to come back on the market

These cars on 17s do seem to be 2.0T GT specs other than the smaller wheels. I don`t understand why they would have those wheels cos it is not even an option on GT cars. Would be intersting to know where they have come from......and I agree I would not buy a GT spec car with those wheels

Yes.....could be that....... but on the VW used car site they are calling them 2.0 TSI GT cars. On the new car confgure page it also seems you cannot have the 2.0 TSI petrol engine in a non GT car. Maybe the possible configurations have not been updated but it still seems strange.

Just a guess, but maybe these GTs with 17 inch wheels are to an Irish Republic spec and have either come from there or been diverted to the UK by VW?
