Its Bugging me

Post by coldel »

...am doing at least one 200 mile motorway drive a week now and am getting somewhat annoyed at those damn bugs that go and die on my bonnet and refuse to budge during a wash.

I read the detailing guide, it mentions 'claying' but sounds a bit scary and way too much work (as I need to do this weekly!) - am I missing the obvious, shouldnt it be easy to just get these little blighters off other than lubing and claying a car?

Anyone got a simpler, quicker effective solution?

an interesting but sensible tip I found on meguiars online is..
Mix up a bucket of car-shampoo. Take a towel (or two if you need it.) [make sure they are clean] Soak the towel in the car-wash solution. Drape it across the front bumper and let it soak 20-30 minutes. This will re-hydrate the dried up baked on bug bits. Remove the towel and hose off. Repeat if needed. It's not really a good idea to scub the bugs off. Many bugs have very hard exoskeletons that may scratch your paint. Works like a charm and you don't have to buy any extra stuff!
the only other recommendation is don't let them stay on there for long if at all possible, due to the acidity as they will etch the paint like bird lime does, so keep a microfibre & some quick detailer in the car & get at them as soon as you have a chance.

thats a good technique Trix. I do something similar for bird poo. I would soak a kitchen towel and leave it on the poo for about 10 min.

afterwards, everything moves and i would spash the area with a jug of water. all gone.

as for bugs, i hate those ones that are lodged behind the numberplate!

have to commend the person on the site I found it on, certainly saves on getting extra bits & pieces if you have the time to do it

You could try Poorboys Bug Squash... not only does it remove bugs without having to scrub, but it also works well on tar, sand and road grime, so is an all-round good value for money products

Hope this helps
