No wiper smear ...just squeaking at me!

Post by spamdog »

Ok, so on my last roc GT i had the dreaded wiper smear.
Anyway this time on my R there is no smear but the blades are really noisy at the point where the wipers change direction to go back up the screen after coming down, seems worse in heavier rain.
Had some new blades fitted about a month ago and this definetly cured the fault.

But now after a month it's come back, almost like the blades are too hard or need some sort of lube on the rubber, it's really crap!

i would say my car is kept clean even with the volcano ash flying around so any ideas as VW were not helpful last time and i had to fight just to get the wipers replaced!

I had the same thing when I had the wipers changed to, what were at the time, the latest revision C blades.

After trying another set of the same blades and an attempt at telling me I wasn't cleaning the screen and wipers often enough the dealer agreed the noise wasn't right and changed wipers to Golf Mk 6 blades. All sorted now, no smear and no squeaks for about 6 months.

You can check what part number you've got on the back of the metal section of the blade. Etka shows some revision E blades specifically for the Scirocco now but they could still be using up stocks of old blades.

Milton Keynes were a couple of months ago showing stock of a "D" version which turned up if you ordered the "E" version spare part. The packaging was "D" with a label stuck over it stating the "E" version. The part number was "D" on the wipre carrier. I rejected it at the Parts Dept.. They had quite a few in stock (50+) at M.K.

Had the "E" version on mine from the factory last October and after a few weeks started to smear due to the wiper blade carrier collapsing in the middle. This gave a broad band arching in the middle of the windscreen where the carrier couples to the wiper arm. The driver's side only was affected.

I've fitted a wiper blade with part number 5K2 955 426 on the drivers side 3 weeks ago and so far it's OK, totally clear screen and no noise. It was a straight swap. The passenger one is 5K2 955 425 but my original is OK so not fitted one.

The 1K8 955 426 D is the LHD version and the 1K8 955 426 E is the RHD (both driver's side blades) doesn't make a lot of sense putting stickers over the letter as the blade would be upside down on the car!

5K2 955 426 / 425 are the mk. 6 golf and jetta parts.

I have noticed this noise on mine, but it seems to come and go - maybe depends on the amount of rian on the screen. As mad as it may sound, it hasnt actually rained that much since i got my car in February (when i have been driving anyway), but this morning the noise was really bugging me in the rain.

My car has been back into the dealer for the wipers before, as for some reason on the very end of the return stroke, the wiper seems to squeek quite badly and is obviously causing resistance at this point. When this passes, the wiper then jolts down and bangs agaisnt the plastic/body work and the bottom, causing a knock.

I have posted before, but no-one seems to have had this. Time to get it booked back into WC.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!

The "Demo" Scirocco that I am driving at the moment, has a noise that when the wipers hit the right of the screen they make a noise.

Radio covers the sound easily!

i just figured it was cos its new (Only arrived Friday), but, hey, not my problem, I just hope my "new" one doesn't have it :P
