I've had the car for 12 weeks now and have been fastidious in my cleaning regime. I spent £150 on cleaning products including bucket with grit guard, sheepskin mitt and luxury drying towel from Autoperfection. Anyway as the 12 weeks of ownership have passed by I have picked up a number of minute scratches on the screen. 1 is in the arc of the wiper but others are obviously while the car has been washed (the only explanation I can see) but there are no scratches on the other glass in the car and no scratches on any of the paintwork which is gleaming. When I wash the car I always jet wash it first to get rid of any grit as well.
Anyway I'm off down to Gilders in Sheffield today having just rung them but I don't expect to get any joy as the service manager has just "mentioned" if its not a manufacturing defect it will not be covered by warranty. Obviously my implication is this is a manufacturing defect but I don't know how I will actually prove that.
I have 2 other cars that I wash on a weekly basis (18 months and 10 years old) and neither have any scratches on the damned screens.
I do know that some of you have had similar issues with the screens but having searched the threads there are no reports of anyone having a screen replaced under warranty.
Any advice welcomed

Re: Windscreen Issues
I have the exact same problem. After 1 year of ownership the windshield is really badly scratched. Sure, some minor dings are related to chips on the highway, but I already have 4 serious arc scratches that are obviously done by the wipers + plus a whole bunch of smaller ones which aren't as bad.. Seems like the glass is on the soft side. Still strange never had this problem with any other car, at least not so soon. I agree with you I can already hear the service people telling me its normal wear and tear...

Yep I have more chips and scratches in 1 year of ownership than I did in 10 years on my old car. It does seem very susceptible.

My issues are on their way to VW technical - now awaiting response
Re: Windscreen Issues
People say this about all new cars lately! I've noticed this issue mentioned on Audi forums, mercs, MINI's etc..
There is a hell of a lot of crap on our roads- a lot more since the bad winter we had. My 1 year old windscreen is mint with no scratches whatsoever- and I have nearly 9000 miles on the clock.

Re: Windscreen Issues
I’m not alone then; I have a large arched shaped scratch on my windscreen right in my light of sight so annoying...
Re: Windscreen Issues
Joining an old thread here, but I can only agree. I have had my car since 1st Sep and now have three major scratches on the screen after the snow we have had....annoying to say the least. I too have had owned many cars over the last 20 years and the VW does seem more easily scratched. Im glad I am not alone on this.
Does anyone have any tips for removal, Ive read about toothpaste, brasso and jewellers rouche, but not yet tried any. Other than that its a replacement, but surely its just going to scratch again!
