What type of alarm is fitted? Is it a Thatcham cat 1?

Just tell the insurer that it's the manufacturers standard fitted device. You can't go wrong with that.

Does it actually make much difference to your premium having another alarm over and above the factory fitted system? I mean lets face it nowadays it's almost impossible to hotwire cars which is why thieves are resorting to nicking your keys.

For info I'm a 50 year old driver, keep the car on the drive, have 5 years no claims have the missus on as a named driver, use the car for commuting and business travel and the premium is about £260 per year. Found the cost comparison websites quite good.

No it doesn't. Only thing that will make a difference over and aboe the stock one is if you have a tracker fitted but that hardly has an impact at all.

I got a deal through a friend to get a tracker fitted. Phoned my insurance company to see if having a Tracker fitted would make much difference. I was told that it wouldn't and only "expensive" cars warrant them. Each insurance company will be different I guess though...

There is no need to fit another alarm or to upgrade it. Its a very good alarm fitted to it as mine is constantly being set off by the lorries that past it form the building site next to my house. And its only the frequency from the engine noise setting it off.

I had a Tracker on my last car.

Made no difference to the cost of my insurance what-so-ever.

I got a quote with and without for the R, £50 difference. Not worth the hassle, let alone subscription fees.
