Bury bluetooth kit upgrade..?

Post by mandtholli »

I had the VW bluetooth kit retro-fitted last December (it is the Bury kit badged as VW) and want to get a new phone. My old Sony Ericsson works fine with the kit, but I'm having problems getting other phones to pair and work fully. It won't pair with my husbands Nokia 5800 and when I tried a Samsung Tocco it wouldn't read text messages.
We have done some investigating and it seems that the VW kit needs a software upgrade. My garage know nothing about this so we have tried using the Bury site but had no success.
Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone suggest a solution?

I have the same phone kit and use it with my Nokia 6600 Slide. I haven't tried the text reading function, but everything else seems to work OK.

When I bought the car I was told it had Bluetooth, but was a little disappointed to find it was the Bury kit rather than the VW Premium one. The dealer said this was because the Premium kit only works with certain phones, which I knew, and my phone is one of them. The possibility of changing to the Premium Kit was politely declined by the dealer, so the Bury kit stayed. I've had the Bury control panel moved into the covered cup holder on my car which I think makes the installation neater, didn't like it stuck to the centre console.

A couple of questions about the Bury phone kit in your car...
Do you get a display on the radio when you use the phone?
Does it work with the buttons on the steering wheel?

I'm pretty sure that when I had the test drive, and he demonstrated the phone, it displayed "Phone" on the RCD510 when the phone was in use, but can't remember if he used the steering wheel buttons to control it. Since they moved the phone control panel into the covered cupholder, it still mutes the radio, but doesn't display anything anymore and doesn't work with the steering wheel controls.

I'm interested so that if I'm missing some functionality I can get them to look at it when it's in for service.

There is no display on the radio, its all on the little screen on the dash, it's actually fitted nicely to my right and isn't too big so it doesn't get in my way when I'm driving but its just in the right position for me to see when I'm selecting contacts etc.

I thought it would work with the button on the steering wheel but it doesn't unfortunately. They explained that it is because its a retro-fit. If I had chosen the bluetooth as an option at manufacture it would have worked with the button. Maybe thats why it doesn't display on the radio screen???

We have been trying to update it with software from the bury site but it seems that VW have made it so that it won't accept the updates from bury! So I'm taking it in next weekend along with my husbands Nokia 5800 to see what they are going to do about it. I was told that it should pair with any phone when I made my purchase! I would like to get an iphone but am reluctant to do so in case it doesn't work with the car kit

I use the same device, and you're right - I get the reponse "there are no text messages" even when I know there are. Please post/let me know if you find a solution.
Thanks

I had a Parrot fitted, the guy spent nearly a day pulling car apart but cuts raio, says 'Radio' on display and also works off steering wheel button.
It required another module. I guess all is possible and yes I did get billed for it but happier knowing my phone works than the £2500 phone and satnav package in last car that wouldn't pair with a Blackberry!!
My guy is based in Slough and very competant if you want his details......

After reading the problems some folks have had with the VW Bury system and software updates I decided to go for a standard Bury system that I found advertised as fitted on Ebay at £169-99 from secura Car in Stafford. I had to purchase a SORT lead (I think) which added £20 but they fit within 60 miles of Stafford. Can't really reccomend these guys highly enough. Fitter turned up at designated time and it took him an hour to fit it. really pleased with the functinality of the system as it picked both mine and my wifes phones up immediately (XDA orbit and I Phone), downloaded the phone books and voice recognition is brilliant. The install is very neat.
I would have liked the Fiscon but couldn't really justify the price, plus the Bury is easy to remove and will transfer to another car if I wish.

Just thought I'd post this for anyone thinking of the Bury system that lives within 60 miles of Stafford. Local company wouldn't match the price.

Can't quite see....

Is that a phone display on the RCD510 display as well?

...and does it work with the steering wheel buttons...?

No that's just the media menu.
