Saw my first roc r today
A silver one:
I was pretty underwhelmed to be honest. It is beautiful but in no way tempted me a think about trading in my car. I had actually found an r slot previously but decided against it.
But then again, if I modded one...

I went to see one on friday, just to make sure before I spent any more money on my GT if I would be tempted to swap them over. Lovely car, don't get me wrong but I wont be swapping to one just yet (never say never)
They haven't made it different enough in my opinion to warrent the extra money. I am sure if I had driven one of those before my Gt I may be singing a different tune.

It is the interior that is the biggest let down. This one had leather, which was eactly the same as that in my car bar an embrioded r badge on the headrests. If you buy one go for cloth! The alu dash trim is a nice touch but i actually prefer the R32 trim that i fitted in mine and it would have been nice if the centre console matched.
If it was lower and had recaros then I would have definitely been more tempted. VW have really missed a trick not making it more exclusive. the bumpers and brakes are beautiful though.

I agree wiv some of those comments. I think the bodykit does set it apart against the non R models. Interior yes not much diff really. Seats are identical. Cloth trim in light grey alcantara is unique so that's the better option in my view otherwise the interior becomes too dark. Overall the extra toys u get as standard just about makes it worthwhile but if u spec it wiv other things it's soo easy to go over £30k. I'm hoping it'll hold it's value better also. Would have loved a set of recaros but hey ho u can see the VW bods have cut back on some things wiv this car so no surprise really

I think they approached the scirocco market very badly. They used all there good resources on the golf's maybe this is due to a bigger clientel, but they totally mis-calculated everything. First mistake in my opinion was letting the scirocco have the same cabin as the mk5 gti, altho the mk6 golf came out at the same time.
Second, they changed the steering wheel and speedometer, without the engine.
Third, they changed everything. When you change the engine, ac unit, steering wheel, and speedometer, i beleive it is a totally new model aka scirocco mk4 i think.
Lastly, why create the r at the last second. Most pepople that bought the 2.0tsi's would have prefered going for the r. So why make people wait so long.
And about the recaros, they prefer fitting them on golf's thats too bad
On a happier note they are good cars to drive

Looking at how much you've spent on your roc CM you could probably of had an R. A better car with much better residuals.

Can I just say coming from a 2.0 GT to now owning an R ...I think all you 2.0 owners should take 1 for a drive, that's all I'm saying!

I dont doubt for a minute it is a lovely car to drive, my comment was for the extra money it's not special enough to make me want to change cars. I bought my car last year and managed to get a good discount on it and only paid £21K for the car, today I reckon it would cost around £24K with a decent discount.
So for me to upgrade mine to an R there is a differential if about £8K, if I was ordering today though that would be about £4K (not taking into account thinkgs like xenons that you get on the R as standard). So perhaps then I would consder it.
As it is I am currently happy with my car and the modifications I have made and making to it. But who knows what will get next time round.
But enough about my thoughts, enjoy your car mate. My GT is a cracking car out of the box so the R must be awesome.

Was your 2.0 GT a standard car? Because I reckon a remapped and lowered GT isn't going to feel a hell of a lot different. Didn't bother looking at the GT when i ordered mine. Main reason because when there up next to each other GT looks average and too many on the road round manchester. Got Chris Peacocks 20" Techarts for mine, getting them back to GTS spec in gloss black with machined edge think they'll suit the candy R

I don't doubt it but I was jut asking if Spamdog's car was a standard GT to get perspective on his comparison. To be honest if I was buying a Scirocco now, I would have gone for the R as well but it wasn't available at the time and truth be told, as much as I love my car, I wouldn't buy another one. When I'm due to change it'll be a completely different model and marque that I go for.
I don't think the point of Candy's post is to talk about whether the R is the better car or not. It obviously is. I think his point is more in relation to is it worth changing from a GT to an R. Personally, I don't think it is. But that's because I would never buy the same kind of car twice in a row.

its worth changing the GT to an R when the time is right for you
i wouldn't have another GT, other models in the range too similar which has its advantages and disadvantages, the R is a contender along with a few other candidates, the pics of GTI2RocR's were the first ones that really made me think wow i'd really quite like one
had a similar issue with performance when i was buying the GTI, the 230ps engine was a no brainer for me
as always in forum world people are slightly deluded by the perfromance of their mapped cars and wear rose tinted specticals, in reality at the Superchips rolling road day my suspision was confirmed that mine then only had a slight performance advantage of a stock Ed30/Pirelli, through the gears nothing in it, in gear acceleration, yes there was an advantage with the torque
the engines are entirely different how they deliver the power so to get the best out of them you need to drive differently, main benefit of stage 2 on the roc and the intake was peak power shifted to over 6,000rpm
in reality whsilt i was waiting for my R to be built i'd be busy ordering some bits and bobs to bolt onto it for when it was run in, fortunately i know exactly what kit would be going on a R

I think most car manufacturers shoot themselves in the foot by making models too similar. Should have a 1.4 TSI / TDI, 2.0 GT TSI / TDI and an R (but more race spec). But by releasing models every 6 months, it boosts sales.
I think the R is nice, but as some of said, needs to be differentiated more.

Don't get me wrong, like for like an a base R would be much better than a base GT and if I was buying a Roc now I'd go for the R.
The point I was trying to make is that I was expecting to be blown away and ready to place an order. In reality I wasn't, mainly down to a few things:
1. not the right colour for me - I'd have loved to see it in rising blue (just my taste)
2. The interior is a major dissapointment, a car like this should have recaros and most in this class do. maybe cloth would have been more interesting than leather.
3. the ride height issue is still not sorted IMO
4. they should have done some model specific colours and definitely pewter
5. Like for like it would cost me around 10k to change.

I would have bought an R if they were available at the time. Having said that, if I sold my car now I would make a profit on it . I have done everything myself (bar the suspension and revo) and the car can be put back to standard. I got a huge discount when I bought the car and the mods have been done to a budget. The base price of the GT has gone up as well as VAT too. Residulas on the GT were a thing that worried me once the R was released but they don't seem to have been hit too hard at the mo. Dont forget that the R has further to fall in terms of value, it's not all about percentages.
Everything I've changed on my car I'd still have to do an R anyway, wheels, suspension, revo. The 20" wheels would definitely look amazing on an R!
I don't think that I could move to an R now with similar or less performance than my GT. That doesn't mean that my car is better, just that for me the GT to R gap has been closed a good deal. All in all I walked out of the show room, crossed the road and got into my modded GT a happy man, even though i wanted to be tempted away!
Who knows, if VW pull their finger out and release a special edition R with 300hp, an exclusive colour and an upgraded interior I might be one of the first to put my name down
Good choice with the techarts BTW they'll look amazing- I nearly went for them. I'd keep them white though!

Yes my GT was standard so im talking straight out of the box.
i personally like the fact the R is a bit understated hence why i didnt get a Focus RS!
But also i can see why people are not happy about the price difference ...but i managed to order at last years prices so im well happy
