brendan, Sorry to read through that list of troubles. I've basically got the same car which is 99.9% perfect.

You must give it back to the dealer to sort out, pronto.

I know it must be galling to hear this but my Roc is easily the best VW I've owned AND I've had a few.

This is my third VW and it is by far and away the best yet. It is screwed together in a very solid manner - even when driving over rough roads. The damping is excellent. Road surface noise is very well contained - even with big 18" tyres. Nothing rattles around the dash (yet). My experience with the climate control is first rate. When using the 'Max' demist function, to get rid of steamed up windows, it clears in seconds. The fastest I have ever encountered in a car!

Overall interior build quality [compared to my Mk5 Golf and even my old Mk4] is in another league. Yes some parts are similar, and nicked from the EOS, but the overall fit and finish is a real step up. So, well done VW.

I'm sad to hear Brendan's "Niggles" are so numerous. Could his car be the Friday afternoon lemon??? I hope not [for his sake]. Not sure how a dealer would tackle his snag list. Where would they start?

Not had much to complain about - as mentioned before the ESP & ACC buttons are wrong for right hand drive.
But more importantly the damn handbrake seems set for left hand drive. Its quite firm and you have to reach over the other side of the console to get to it. Worse still when you've got some drinks in the drink holders and then you've got to reach over them too.

What is going on with the ventilation system ? How come when you've been out on a cold / wet day, you come back to your car and the screen's clear. You drive 100 yards and then as if by magic it completely mists up. Need to turn the heater / aircon on quick before you're driving blind Never known this in a car before.

Biggest problem I have is a drivers window that makes noises every time I hit a bump on the road. The door seal has been replaced but has made no difference.
Overall I'm very disapointed with the build quality, especially after coming from an Alfa. This car has already spent double the time in the garage in 2 months of ownership then my Brera spent in 2 years. I will probably go back to Alfa in a couple of years.
VW build quality is not good enough.

A coupe of things which may or may not help:

2.tailgate/rear parcel shelf rattle

Mine had a rattle from the parcel shelf/tailgate area, I got my Dad to drive while I sat in the back to "investigate" it was the plastic on the boot lid around the wiper motor knocking. I resolved it eventually by pushing a load of the packaging type foam in around the gap with a credit card packing the space out. Much better now - just a word of warning don't take the plastic around the inside of the boot lid out like I tried first, its a total bugger to get back in without damage!!

11.rattle behind dash/dials somewhere.

I thought I had this problem but it seems to be the front drivers wiperblade knocking/juddering on the screen when not in use. You can tell its the wiper because the knocking stops when the wipers are moving. Not sure what the fix is but I cleaned the wiper and the windscreen and its stopped for now (wiper still smears the screen though) Seems a bit intermitant.

hi all,all my niggles;

8.very noisy/rattling release bearing when idling/cold.

Anyone had this resolved with their Roc? I appear to have the same thing, plus what appears to be a noisy window rattle (passenger side) when driving over bumps in the road.

for me;

seat belt - they are too far back, so i have to buy a plastic clip to stop it from retracting all the way back.
Armrest - its too far back for my elbow
Heating - takes ages for the fan to heat up. perhaps because these cars are built in a hot country, so the aircon comes on automatically instead when you reverse.
The seats - that triangular bit is digging into my thights.
The door - unless you completely open it, you can't get out easily. Its like climing out of a bath.
Aerial - whats wrong with the sharkfin one? the one in the window is not strong enough to pick up Galaxy!!
Rear tail gate - not enough damping. closing it makes a big bang.

so thats it. I am sure to find more as the year goes by.

But, cars are like women, you will put it with all the negatives because of the pleasures you get...

My wife complains she has trouble with the doors due to the fact thy're so heavy and our drive is also on an incline so she struggles to get out of the car when parking up. For this reason she prefers to use her own car. Thats a result for me

To be honest this is the best car I've ever owned (so far) I've had a couple of window rattles from the drivers door but just opening and closing the window seems to solve it at the moment. Rear view is rubbish but I knew that when I bought it but all in all the car is superb. Took it to a mates yesterday who just had a new BMW and turned green with envy especially afer he'd had a ride

I found this too yesterday, very neat, although it blocks the handbrake somewhat. Perfect for motorway cruising though.

The door handles on the inside, they are not quite flush against the door panel.

to be honest i don;t see the point of those triangular door handles.

it makes opening of the door difficult because the weight of the door is towards the rear, rather than the front which is also the pivot point.

Oh that as well! I meant the actual handle to open the door on the inside, it doesnt look like it sits right to me...if I pull on it by about 1cm then it looks flush.

Took the rocco on a nice long A road run, lots of changing speed limits enroute etc. This prompted me to notice the biggest niggle for me, the size of the numbers on the speedo.

30 - 50 - 70, the three most common speed limits in the UK. On the speedo though the bigger numbers are 20 - 40 - 60...very annoying. I just want to glance down and see my speedo needle sitting nicely on the bigger font numbers when checking my speed.

I posted elsewhere that after 18 months I cured this problem, its not the wipers that rattle its just that putting the wipers on clears the noise, for me it was the plastic scuttle in front of wiper arms, scuttle under bonnet rattling on suspension tops, cure was padding between panel and suspension struts!! noise was intermittent and I believe temp sensitive.................

Mate I have had this issue from new and it has literally been driving me insane, even ruining my enjoyment of the car. The other nights I also tracked it down to the plastic scuttle. What did you use for padding and where exactly did you put it?
