Re: Rear View Camera
as scirocco's dont have the twisting boot handle they would have to make a new boot for the car so i very much doubt they will do one for it unless they have a change of shape
MY CARS IS SOLD 21.5K BETTER OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Rear View Camera
Is there a reason, other than cost presumably, that the Scirocco didn't get the twisting boot handle - was expecting to see it given the Passat and Golf amongst others have them. Had this on my Seat in the past too, so seemed a bit strange not to have it on the Scirocco.ryancooke wrote:as scirocco's dont have the twisting boot handle they would have to make a new boot for the car so i very much doubt they will do one for it unless they have a change of shape

Re: Rear View Camera
I guess it's all to do with stages of development.
The golf was developed after the scirocco so they added new bits.
There should be a facelift in a couple of years so it might make it in then.

Re: Rear View Camera
I'm assuming that shape and size of the boot on the Scirocco was a big reason that it didn't have the pivotting badge boot handle. The lower (non glass) part of the boot is a lot shorter than the Golf, presumably giving less room for the mechanism.
Although you can get front and rear sensors for parking on the Golf, they're not getting those front ones for free - it's about £130 over and above the cost of the rear-only set up that is on the Scirocco. The front ones are a waste of money IMO, you can see the front of your car a lot easier than you can see the back in a Scirocco (and judge the distance).
There's only 5 months between the release of the Roc and the Golf MK6 - not exactly light years apart in development, and the pivotting badge was already well established kit on older VWs and SEATs. I doubt whether that rear view camera wasn't on the drawing board for the VAG parts bin when the Scirocco was conceived. VW probably think that the majority of Scirocco owners won't want a rear view camera on their car, and so it'll be a waste of time and money to alter their production lines to accomodate it. VW probably aim for 5 to 10% take up on all of their options in order to make them cost effective, so won't consider one which will have hardly any take-up at all. We've got the stuff that matters as standard (in the UK at least) - RCD510, Dual Zone Climate and ACC - there's a lot of envious Golf owners out there.
A really good feature for that camera would be if it automatically recorded 5 mins of footage (onto a hard drive)following a rear impact when the car is parked up - might catch a few of those arse-holes who clip you and then drive off in the car park.

Not quite intended for what maisbitt suggested but quite a nifty bit of kit.

yes i assume this the main reason toomaisbitt wrote:I'm assuming that shape and size of the boot on the Scirocco was a big reason that it didn't have the pivotting badge boot handle. yep i checked that out but 130 quid in the scheme of things isnt really that much if it stops you knocking your car just once then its more than payed for itselfmaisbitt wrote:Although you can get front and rear sensors for parking on the Golf, they're not getting those front ones for free - it's about £130 over and above the cost of the rear-only set up that is on the Scirocco. i would have thought being that that part is already been mass produced for other models that they would have changed the shape of the boot on the roc in the stage of production from concept to road vehicle to accommodate that type of boot opener and save themselves some money.maisbitt wrote:There's only 5 months between the release of the Roc and the Golf MK6 - not exactly light years apart in development, and the pivotting badge was already well established kit on older VWs and SEATs. Re: Rear View Camera
The Scirocco seems incredible value for money when compared to a Golf of a similar trim level (although I wouldn't complain if it were cheaper). There have been a few compromises on the little things (like the boot handle and gas strut on the bonnet - but was it all down to money?), but instead we get a superior RCD510 unit as standard, ACC as standard, better alloys as standard, better seats as standard in a much better (but slightly less practical) car. If you don't need those back seats 90% of the time then who'd buy a Golf over a Scirocco?
When you look at the target market, a lot of those Golf drivers are middle-aged women on the school run, with the kids jumping all over - they're the type of people who'll want and need the front sensors so as not to scrape the other cars in Asda car park. I think most people are capable of judging where the front of their car is and won't feel the need to add the front sensors to a Scirocco.
I think most people who buy the Scirocco will probably take more care of it than a Golf or Passat (which to some will just seem like a bit of a workhorse especially if it's a company car or been bought for the driver, not by the driver), and so will probably take more care when driving it and be less inclined to rely on the front sensors etc.
I still think the rear sensors are one hell of an asset on a Scirocco (although you have to reverse quite slowly for the beeps and the visual system to keep up - if you reverse faster than they update then you will hit that wall behind you). If you start putting too many of these drivers aids on, then to some of the Scirocco target market it won't seem as sporty.

Re: Rear View Camera
Sorry for the lateness here gents but I'm a newby here. I saw the Audi A5 has the camera fitted beneth the boot handle and a similar thing has been mentions to fit between the number plate lights. Does anyone know anything about this or has an update on that product listed above? The link doesnt work any more so an update would be good if anyone has anything.
Im getting my Roc next week and I'm keen to get a camera if I can.
Any info anyone???

Re: Rear View Camera
Welcome to the Forum Jay_Boy. Plenty of info to look at and get involved with.
Its not a UK option yet as far as I know. Not in the 01.01.10 VW (UK) price list. My guess is that it may be part of the next update in April - June period. Best asking to see if it can be ordered specially as it's already in the handbook and an option in Germany.
Camera sits between the number plate lights (not a clean area for the lens!) and works into the RCD510 or RNS510 screen.

Re: Rear View Camera
The rear hatch would need rear engineering cos there's metal work for the central locking in the way and the wiper motor. Its not like the Golf where provision was made in the design for the camera to go in behind the VW badge. So they've opted for the other way they fit the camera on models in the VW range.

Re: Rear View Camera
At least with the golf the camera was protected from road grime. The sciroccos rear end just sucks dirt onto it. Its like one big road hoover. The camera above the number plate is a neat idea though. Is it available as an option now?

Re: Rear View Camera
If I retro fit, the camera unit will be put behind the hatch window. I still have to check my RCD510 is compatible for the video input as there are various unit standards and some don't accept the VW camera video input. It needs to state "RVC" on the RCD510 part label on the side of the unit.BAIKAR wrote:At least with the golf the camera was protected from road grime. The sciroccos rear end just sucks dirt onto it. Depends which country - you will have to consult the relevant options list for your country. Not UK at the moment as said above.

Excellent stuff guys. I'll just wait until an option appears from the dealers. I'm sure they'll keep people interested with additions like that. if in the meantime any of you guys manage to fit a camera and get it working with the RCD510, post it on here and you'll have many friendly followers!!
Cheers
