Unwanted optional extra
I had been hoping to show you some pictures of my shiny new 2.0 GT in pewter grey; but instead here is the first thing I noticed about the car in the showroom. Spotted it before I had even spoken to the dealer. The dealer has agreed to pay for the full cost of the repair through a VW approved bodyshop, but to say that this takes the edge off the purchase is a bit of an understatement.

That is poor. Its so noticeable I'm surprised they didn't notify you before you saw it. Its good they are sorting it out. Its gotta be gutting to wait for ages then have set back like that.

Re: Unwanted optional extra
They had no explanation other than they think it must have happened between the car coming from the parking area round the back of the dealer and being put in the showroom. Who knows what the truth really is.
The really laughable bit was that the car handover was being done by one of the dealer's staff that I hadn't dealt with before as my usual contact was not in that day. The guy's attitude was basically, "well, if it had been one of my cars being handed over then it wouldn't be in that condition" !
Just to add insult to injury, they didn't fit the mats I had asked for weeks in advance and the car is suffering from the dreaded wipe smear and wastegate rattle >:-(

Good that they have agreed to pay, but its still a fifty mile round trip (and no car for a day) to get it to the nearest approved bodyshop to where I live. They did say they'd pay for the extra petrol costs though!Ibanez33 wrote:That is poor. Its so noticeable I'm surprised they didn't notify you before you saw it. Its good they are sorting it out. Oh, so not so great then, as its going to be a pain getting there and trying to kill the time without car..
I'm going have to make sure my excitement doesn't get in the way when I collect mine..

If it's any consolation, at least it's the bumper, not a rear quarter or something that could need a blow in or blending to "lose" the repair
They will be able to paint the whole bumper so it will at least be invisible once repaired
Still a downer at collection though which should be a moment of pleasure !

Shocking! It makes you wonder how thorough these PDI checks are.

Re: Unwanted optional extra
I find that absolutely unbelievable. I have a tiny scratch (down to primer) on the roof and a rattling piece of trim under the steering column, which is basically just flapping around. I went over the car in detail at the handover but didn't spot the scratch until I waxed it at the weekend and found the (unsecured) trim when running the cable for my Fiscon unit. When I searched for rattling dashboards on the forums, I was more or less led to believe it was normal. I wasn't particularly impressed by that! I reported them to the dealer but have to visit them for photographs first. If they try and say it was me that did either, I will go mental. I was promised the premium mats when I ordered but the original salesman left and I dealt with another guy and I ended up with the rubber ones instead. As the weather was cr@p, I left it and am kind of glad I did but the fact was, I should have been given what I was promised. Then I could have bought the cheap rubber ones myself. I does make me wonder about QC at Setabul and the perception of premium service by VW and their dealers. This certainly isn't my findings. When you buy a brand new car, it should be faultless and this is not the first new car I have had issues with.
I hope you get that sorted and the dealer bungs some freebies your way as a goodwill gesture.

Re: Unwanted optional extra
Sorry to hear of your experience, I have recently collected my new Roc only for it tu be returned to the dealer within 24hours as all the lights were not working corectly. It became apparent a control box required replacement. I was furious as it was a fault that if a PDI was carried out proprerly the fault would have showed up, as it was daylight on collection it appeared the basic lights were ok.
I explained my frustrations and belief the car had not been PDI properly and indicated I was going to refuse the car not fit for purpose!! The dealership loaned me a car fixed the control box and I have now secured nearly £300 worth of extras as a gesture of goodwill.
The ROC is working fine now and in my view remains the best looking coupe around.

Re: Unwanted optional extra
Car now sorted and the repair looks great. Harrogate VW were pretty good I have to say -- running me to the station and giving the car a decent exterior clean too. My dealer in London also paid Harrogate over the phone so I just need to claim back my petrol and train costs. I might take the opportunity to remind that Toyota just gave me M&S vouchers for the hassle of having to take our Yaris in to do the recall work and that they didn't fit the mats I asked for (and would have paid for!). I'll post pictures of my unblemished new car over the weekend once my local valeter/detailer has given it the Diamondbrite treatment tomorrow.

Pictures of my Scirocco after its bumper repair and now with Diamondbrite treatment earlier today. Not great weather but a good test of the treatment with all of the water beading on the paintwork.
