What should I do?

I've been thinking about an R for quite a while and got offered a RB, DSG with leather and 19" for a £12,250 swap. My car is Sep 08 RB 2.0 GT with leather, sat, nav and sensors. Its done 15500 miles. My wife thinks it looks the same but I would like some advice particularly if you have driven one. The other choice is a second hand Cayman/ Boxster but I think it will cost to much to run at 12k miles a year. Thanks!!!

TO put it into context, i've px'd my 08/08 RB 2.0 GT similar spec to yours but also pan roof, for an RB R manual with every extra available and am paying £13,600 to change. SO your deal sounds not too bad, pretty much what you'd expect I think.

I'm due to take delivery in around 10 days so will let you know how the car is, but from the reviews, and from what others who have swapped have said, its a different beast altogether...however, the cayman is a very good alternative if you are willing to give up the extra room inside that the Scirocco offers!!

I would recommend going along to a Porsche dealer and arrange a test drive of the Cayman (S). My wife has a Boxster 3.4S and its absolutely awesome - I think the Cayman would be better again. The Roc and the Cayman are quite different - 'horses for courses'. Whichever you went for I don't think you would regret your decision.

OK so I tested a Cayman S PDK yesterday and as others said it is amazing. But they are completely different cars. Its the running costs that concern me with the Porsche with 12k miles a year. My boss is selling his Boxster S which is 5 years old for about £22k. It seems very tempted or the Porsche dealer offered me an 08 Boxster S for £33,900. Still hoping to get a Scirocco R drive to compare.

Your spot on there. The Scirocco R makes more overall sense.The running costs are going to be high for the Boxster / Cayman we only get 26mpg and after 7,000 miles the 2 year service was about >£800 which included a brake fluid change. Then there's the road tax and insurance. BTW your boss's car 5 yrs old maybe the 3.2S which has quite a different feel. The other bit of advice I would give is that choosing a used Boxster can be complicated as there is an enormous amount of options. When we placed the order we said just the basic spec but we ended up spending a fortune on options - (Porsche.co.uk-car configurator).

As an ex GT owner who upgraded to the R ...just do it.
As soon as you hear that noise i can tell you it is nothing like the GT ...see if they can maybe upgrade the stereo for sat-nav to do a deal or something?

I'm waiting on my Rocco R to be delivered, its on the Boat. I can wait. I've traded my 08 R32 in for it, didn't go for the Golf as it would have been my 4th in a row and I fancied a change.

I'm sure the Porsche is the faster car round a track and fun to drive but in the real world a Rocco R is going to be just as quick.
I personally would not have a Boxter/Cayman because people I employ and my customers would just see the Porsche badge and draw there own conclusions (Same reason I didn't want a BMW 135).
And all my friends although happy to go for a burn in it would call it a Girls Car, which it is !

The Porsche would depreciate less over the next few years though.

If I wasn't buying a Rocco R and looking for something nearly new to play with Id been looking a BMW Z4M Coupe's, much sexier than Boxter s/Cayman

Well I found a cayman s 4 29k with 9000 miles but my wife doesn't like it. Vw are making me jump through hoops even to drive it!
