Cars Without a Rear Wiper

Post by ABN1C »

Sorry for the random question. My partner fancies getting an Audi TT and it came to mind that it doesn't have a rear windcreen wiper. I know loads of cars don't have one, but I've never owned a car that doesn't have a rear wiper.

I'm just wondering if anyone has good or bad experiences of driving a car without a rear wiper? I know it might not sound a big thing, but not being able to see behind too well could put me off a car.

I had one not work on one of my old cars. On the motorway when its raining its not that bad. Plus is a new car so it should be cleaned 24-7 so it wont matter :)

My last car was a Mk2 TT and the lack of rear wiper did annoy me. In heavy rain all you can make out through the back window are blurry shapes. Still a cracking car though.

I removed my wiper on my mk3 golf and it didn't phase me as I cleaned the car often enough.

I'm probably going to remove the wiper of my scirocco soon enough as i barely use it as it is. Plus it kinda spoils the looks of the car at the rear.

Like wigit says, some rain-x or a similar product will make life easier.

Had a z4 coupe sport in 2007 and it didn;t have a rear wiper. Not a problem.

Cleaning the car regularly is only part of the issue. As we all have notice the rear of the Roc is a dirt magnet and attracts water droplets too. You don't have to travel far down a fast road in the rain before your rear window is completely obscured by a coating of fine rain drops - making viewing what's behind almost impossible. One flick of the rear wiper fixes that (for the time being).
Won't be removing mine :shake:
