Anyway back to my baby. It makes a lovely growly noise and feels as though it will fly. Brakes are perfect, progressive and not grabby at low speeds like the 2.0 DSG i drove before ordering the R. Just went to fill up and got accosted at the petrol station twice by very nice people wanting to see it!!!!!! Car is comfy and just feels right although b..... big doors.
Impressed with the upgrade radio and worth the money. For me the 18's are perfect. Lovely silky ride in comfort and quite liveable in sport as I am an old boy but not telling how old except under 60.19's have the same rolling diameter and for all of you that think it rides on stilts just look at the standard car which sits 10mm higher. The photo supplied is misleading as the drive slopes back making the back end sit higher on the handbrake. I think we all thought the R would be that low the exhaust would drag on the ground but trust me it looks good in the flesh whatever size wheels.
All of you still waiting for your R you are in for a big treat. Happy motoring to all Scirocco drivers.
Had a quick look at mine today, didnt look inside but seen it in the car park so went to take a peek.
I wasnt sure it was gonna be worth me trading my GT in (and still not sure for the cost!) but i was very happy :D
The wheels look awesome, as soon as i walked up to it you can tell it sits lower than the standard car.
The front end looks very clean and tidy, and the wide exhaust pipes look beefy on the rear.
Cant wait to look inside, i dont think pics do the car justice. I was fully preparing myself for a case of "well, i spent this money but is it really worth it?" but i loved it.

Roll on 3rd march!

Hi Old Boy

How long are you going to run it in properly, before you drive it like you stole it. How many miles/km ???

Regards and congratulations

you don't actually need to run it in anymore. But generally you should keep it below 4k rpm for first 600 miles, and don't make the engine labour at low revs when cruising (keep the revs up instead!)

Hi, I'm waiting for a manual R too - what do you make of the Autocar criticism that the only thing that lets it down is the "baggy" gearchange? What's yours like?

Evo have also pointed it out:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarr ... eview.html

"The manual gearbox could do with a tighter, shorter shift."

I found the manual gearchange on the Golf R I tested recently a bit vague. I reckon it's not a bad as they make out. Just not as slick as some of the sports cars they test (e.g. Porsche 997).

Maybe they should remember that the Scirocco is a car for everyday use.
Believe me, after driving a Lotus Elise to work everyday, sat in traffic for a year ...a "sports" gearshift gets very tiring. Brilliant for racing but not for daily use.

I may upset some people here but VW are not known for hardcore track cars whether it be a Roc or a Golf or whatever.

I think the car reviewers are a bit like politicians and starting to get lost in their own world, I mean how can you review something like a ferrari say, then jump into a fiesta and it not feel bad?

I wouldn't worry too much about the manual gearbox!

Also they have reviewed a manual, yet just have pictures of a DSG ...probably didn't even drive the car and just copied the autocar review to keep up with the joneses!
Am I moaning? Maybe ...but you know it makes sense !

In the autocar magazine review, the Roc R was rated 1st when compared with the Focus RS 2nd, Megane 3rd, nissan 370z 4th and Audi TT S 5th....to me that says a lot and as with all reviews, they have to put some negatives, i reckon they really had to fish for 1 in the case of the Roc R and decided on a baggy gearbox!!!! It doesn't bother me and as Spamdog said, the car is made for normal driving as well as being able to provide a thrill when needed, so an all out sports gearbox would be inpractical!!

100 miles covered now. The gear shift action is FINE!

quite a few years a go i did drive a mates Scooby doo that had a short shift kit (the experience made me go buy a scooby actually), but anyway it was pretty mad! hardly needed to move the stick to get the next gear. Was quite amusing going up and down the gearbox lol.

For an all round car like the Roc R, the standard shift action is fine and does the job.

Forgot the winter pack was standard tho....heated seats woo hoo! :D

The R has a different shifter to the regular Models, it is slightly shorter from the factory.
