Same cloth as the MK6 Golf GTI, and its absolutely superb, even better than the awesome Interlagos cloth in the MK5 GTI and previous 9N3 GTI Polo.
its the seats that make it, cloth in GTIs looks the absolute business

It's a nod to the original GTi seat trim. A friend of mine has a similar thing in her MkII.

I have the ibiza cupra with 180ps engine and 7 speed DSG. To clear a few things up:
It is fast (they are making 190BHP+ on the rollers) tehy weight 1175kg

I'm sure it will easily stay with a TSI roc up to 100 and TBH what’s the point in it being faster after that.

I doubt it will get 47mpg since its the same engine as mine and the book figure on the cupra is 42mpg. The best I have managed on the motorway is 45mpg at 60mph. 35mpg day to day and 20s when giving it a bit. The DSG and paddles are great but take some getting used to. Hence the odd poor review about the DSG. You really do need to learn the power band.

Revo will release their remap soon and will be the same as the roc's 1.4TSi which is 219BHP in 99 ron mode. Now I think this may trouble a standard 2.0TSI. A remapped one... different story :)

And I agree completely different markets. I can't believe the amount of attention mine gets and it certainly gets more looks than may mates roc (only down to rarity though IMO).

Here a couple of pics.

Oh and starting at 18k WOW.. Mine cost 18.5k and that was with optional:
racing brakes,
xenons,
auto rain sensing wipers
reversing sensors
auto dimming rear view mirror
folding mirrors
cruise control
built in tomtom cradle.

To spec up one of these bad boys your talking easily into the 20k sector... for a polo. I thout 18.5k for an Ibiza was bad.

I did order mine before the VAT and price increase and with a 1k reduction :)

I still think they will sell well.

There is a reason the Ibiza is cheaper than the Polo........The Polo is a whole level above the ibiza interms of styling, inteior and build though.

And you know this... how?

I know style is down to personal preference but since all the switchgear engine, drive train etc is all VW how can you make that assumption about the ibiza. Its solidly put together with soft touch dash etc.

I just cant see where the £1305 extra will go? (comparing standard to standard).
THIS is the new Seat Ibiza supermini, which is scheduled to arrive here later this year.
It really has the looks – in this case they are due to the work of former Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke.

Really is a lovely looking car. Some more pics:

LOL! - Scirocco Killer. The first time I looked at this thread the "Scirocco Killer?" part was missing. Has it been added to stir up a response?

Candyrocco started the thread entitled "Polo gti - Scirocco killer" Evil. its been merged with Kev's original thread which Candyrocco clearly missed.
we don't need to stir up responses, people post if they have an opinion & want to debate or they don't post.

Cos i've bought two Polo and Two Ibiza's in the past

Yes they share the same running gear and elctrics, so there is no real cost saving for the Ibiza there.

But the quality of the plastics and body's are not the same. The Ibiza IS built to a tighter budget than the Polo and it shows.

It HAS to be that way, so they compete at different ends of the the same market.

Same as the Fabia.

The new Audi A1 will be built on the same platform, will cost more than the Polo and WILL have a higher quality interior, and better all round finish.

Seat owners ALWAYS get arsey when you point out that the cost saving has to be somewhere. . . .

I agree the mk4 Ibiza was not as good quality as the polo of the same time (my sister has the polo and I drive it often). I also had a fabia VRS and this was as good if not better than the polo. The polo i’m referring too is not the brand new shape but the one that is being fazed out (hers is an 09 plate).

The new Ibiza is miles and miles better than the old ibiza. I've test driven the new shape polo and as nice as it was the interior was a little bland and certainly not worth the huge premium over the new ibiza.

There's always going to be the "next new thing" appear around the corner - from VW or some other manufacturer. Part of me wonders if VW will ever bring out a "new" Corrado (there's a Dragon Green M-plate VR6 just around the corner from me - kept very tidy indeed) but hey, I wanted a 'Roc and it's on the way!

I asked my dealer recently about Polo GTi and he expressed concerns that having a big output engine in a car the size of a Polo - fine in a straight line, but would the chassis cope in the twisty bits?

Never got my hands on the 1.6 Lupo GTi - that was meant to be very fast away from the green light but the long distance ride was not so hot? I dunno - any owners out there care to comment?

“Seat owners ALWAYS get arsey” I’m not getting arsey i’m just disagreeing by saying that the new mk5 Ibiza is a quality car, and a leap over the older model.

I understand that there are different levels and cost savings etc between the brands. Since I have owned a Skoda, two Seats and have regular access to a VW I will admit the mk4 Ibiza was the worse build quality. It was also the best spec (160BHP, sports suspension and AP racing 4-pots as standard) at a comparable price which is why I went for it. The new mk5 is a huge step up and until you drive or spend some time in one its difficult to comment. I also find skoda hard to place in the line up. The build quality was great just as good as the polo. Where does the cost saving come from there?

Its funny, on the skoda and seat forums (and even the mk5 golf forum) there is non of the VW brand snobbery I see here. End of the day all the VAG ranges cars are great. Do I really care if a bit of plastic by my knee has a slightly better finish when I can get a IMO better looking just as good car for over £1000 cheaper??

My dad read a review on the polo gti yesterday. He said it closed by saying “an expensive way to buy an Ibiza cupra”. VW know they are onto a good thing with the GTi name, they charge a premium for that! Look at the price of the mk6 golf over the scirroco.

Could be worse, I could still be driving a money pit Peugeot

Oh and RE the comment about the chassis not being upto the power of the engine. Since the chassis (not sure on spring rates or dampening) are very similar I can tell you now it will handle the power perfectly fine. I can’t believe the improvement over the mk4 in terms of handing. ESP off (XDS still active) you can have some great fun and make some rapid progress. So I can quell any of your concerns on the handling front.

--

Oh and I will update you again in a month’s time on how the car copes on Eibach coilovers and 220BHP revo power  . I already have the stopping power sorted with my AP 4-pots.

I think this was the article my dad read:

Intersting comment about the whole VAG range in the comments section.

The mk4 was a great car for power and economy (200BHP 280lb/ft)
Was not great for rattles and handling and uneven tire despite having tracking sorted numerous times.

The new one ticks all the box’s this time. Economy has certainly improved now I’ve put more miles on her. Gave the car its first proper hard drive this weekend 6am Sunday morning so the lanes by me were nice and quiet. The new chassis improvements have enhanced the handling 10 fold! It still doesn’t match up to my original 106 gti with koni suspension but it grips and grips! So anyone who does go for one of these new polo’s is in for a real treat!

For a hard drive I put the car in S mode then take over with the paddles when necessary dropping a gear or two dependant on bend. It took me longer than expected to adjust to the turbo petrol powerband combined with the DSG. What is nice is if you hold the gear up paddle for a second it will put the car back in auto mode, when you take over it will stay in that gear for a set amount of time before reverting back to Sport Auto (not sure how long this is though).
