A German R (transformation)

Post by raffoul232 »

Well found these on another forum, and it looks ace. He even changed the main radio with a touch screen, as well as his seats from alcantra (sides) to a full alcantra chair (sued). What a car, just looks ace  :yummy: :eyepop: .......would have been nicer if he had the rcd or rns 510 at the place of that touchscreen retro fitted. But well each to there own taste. btw you cant deny the fact that it looks :yummy: . Btw one small detail that ppl might not be able to see is the blue stitching, now that is just genious.

I wonder if it ended up costing nearly what a real R would have :)

Why do you think its not genuine?

The first pics clearly shows it has the R cloth seats fitted prior to the retrim, also got a genuie R cluster. . . . .

It had a cloth interior first which would have had the R logo's, since had a retrim, hence no logo's

It's a genuine R. The only changes are the audio system, sound proofing the car and the different upholstery.
He previously owned another rising blue scirocco, a 2.0tsi dsg and upgraded to the R. He's one of the first owners.
PS: I imagine changing the instruments cluster with the blue ones would be a very difficult job. Not to mention the gloss black trim sorrounding the buttons on the steering wheel. For the 2010MY wheels, the trims are quite hard to pull out because they merge together into one piece which is fitted somewhere behind the airbag and the horn.

All European Rocs come with the RCD 310 in standard. No exceptions! I'm not sure, but I think the climatronic is also on the options list for the R!

An R can never achieve the fuel economy of a 1.4TSI, which I appreciate the efficiency very much for a daily car. :yummy:

the hardware is probs very good however it does look REALLY out of place. interface looks a bit to busy/micky mouse... certianly not OEM+
vw maps and satnav are the best i think, much better than tom tom or garmin (except 4 digit postcode which lets it down).
no rSAP phone integration i.e. call lists, speed dial or phonebook.
none of the steering wheels buttons will work.
no voice activation (although i doubt most people use this much).
no visuals for when reverse parking.

the only benefit an aftermarket head unit could bring would be to allow you to run a pc through it...
hook up a 3g stick and you have internet everywhere you go!
also, real time VAG-COM diagnostics mmmmm...

No, you didn't get me.
I want to have both cool looking and fuel economy on my daily ride! What is the best way to get a R look together with award winning 1.4TSI engine and most advanced 7-speed DSG for fuel efficiency? ;)

Well you can keep your 1.4 tsi engine in your car, just get a remap and a nice exhaust system. Also you can get a bodykit fittd by vw or any tuning company for that matter. On top of all that if you really want it too look like an r get the r-line bodykit. So all in all you, can have a cool ride with the most advanced 7spd dsg  .

BTW if anyone thinks that what he did to the centre console is a good thing (aka the screen) then you must be out of your mind. He had everything fitted in his car, i mean the only options that he didnt have are: acc, tyre pressure, rcd or rns and park assist. With the money he spent on that stupid screen he could have easily fitted an rns 510 which looks cooler, and park assist. The seats on the other hand look crazy specially with the blue stitching but why make it fully alcantra if you already have it and factory fitted. For me, its money not well spent

He actually said that retrofitting his sound system cost him about 300-400 euros more than ticking the RNS 510 Dynaudio on the options list. And in Germany that one's about 2500.

i actually love the cloth r trim as alcantara high lights really set it off, pitty he never kept them to compliment the darker alcantara as would have been a bucket load of win

Was looking at the interior pic and the closer you look, you see that he also fitted covered cup holder's. That would have been the only mod i would do. Also Crossbone he could have gone for the rcd 510 no dynaudio....
