touch screen radio

Is my touch screen radio faulty? I cannot see it let alone safely use it when driving in daytime - unless it is very gloomy. [My eyesight is fine just been for a regular contact lens checkup.] Currently I have fitted a little cardboard hood which does help somewhat although it looks a bit tacky. Any thoughts??

Mine's exactly the same, I've set mine to "Brightest" but it's not made any difference.

It's not too bad in the morning but come midday it might as well be turned off as I can't see a thing.

do you always have you lights on/still have your drl's activated?? when the headlights are on it automatically dims it slightly

yes thansk settings on brightest and yes there is a very slight difference with the headlights off. I am arguing with the dealer re sale of goods act as goods have to be of satisfactory quality and I contend that a radio that has invisible controls in sunlight is not satisfactory and potentially dangerous. Don't suppose this will get me very far though!

good to know I am not the only one to suffer this problem

My radio dulls and brightens at will. At night it sometimes refuses to dull down as it should, and in the day it sometimes dulls to being unreadable! At nights more annoying because its blindingly bright, but then dulls for no apparent reason. headlight's on or off make little difference as the RCD510 has a built in ambient light sensor. This is what I assume is causing the random fault in mine. I had a similar prob on an Audi and had the radio replaced under warranty. My prob is its random, so prob wont do it when it goes to get looked at by the dealer.

Just another example of buggy / poorly designed hi-technology. And I thought Bill Gates had the monopoly on that

solved the radio vision problem -I hope, can't really check it for sure as car still with dealer attempting to sort out iPod issue but that another story!

The 510 radio has an ambient light sensor which is situated on the top right corner, it is a tiny tiny tiny lens which doesn't look much. And because it doesnt look like much and it doesn't feature in the handbook the dealer mounted the Bury phone kit over it. I discovered this fact on another posting. Would the dealer believe me?? Of course not. Luckily the Bury phone kit stopped working so car goes back to dealer with a photograph from google images of the radio showing the sensor. They remove the kit -find the sensor - and realise yes I did know what I was talking about. So phone now mounted on far side of radio. If you cover the sensor with your finger it slowly dims down and when removing finger it gradually gets brighter - much much brighter!

So this is something to check re vision probs.
