Acknowledging other Scirocco Drivers??

Post by Danscirocco »

I was driving along the A127 to southend, and a white scirocco pulled up in traffic beside me.
I was like shall i look around and give whoever the driver is, a wave or sign of like "nice car", or am i gonna look a prat!
I mean when i drove my red rx8 i used to get acknowledged a lot of the time, but i must admit i had that when they just come out, lol now theyre everywhere!!

Do any of you acknowledge other roc drivers?

On the very rare occasion that I actually see one (I average about once a month) I do try and wave.

I certainly will (when mine finally arrives) - will obviously do it as discretely as possible, so as not to look like a total prat! Maybe just a nod, or flick of the hi-beam / indicators... :D

When i had my mini aknowledgements were the norm everytime.

I'm not so sure with the roc. I will give it a go when i actually see another.

I've had mine 2 weeks now and i've not seen another! I don't live out in the sticks either....leeds/bradford!

When a car is fairly rare on the roads then it has been common practice for me. When I had the TT there weren't many of them about, so to wave at a fellow 'exclusive' TT owner was acceptable. You'd get bored of waving nowadays though!! Same with the Cayman S. Those were even rarer on the roads so it was a treat to see another one.

The Scirocco, for the time being, is the same.

OP, wave on, being sociable isn't a crime.

As long as I see them in time and it's safe to do so ie. Not a distraction for them or I'm going around roundabouts, I'll always wave.

I usually get a wave back as well. If someone is traveling in the other direction I'll flash my lights too!

I don't do it with the rocco, I used to acknowledge other modified VWs all the time when I had my Golf. But I'm not sure with the Scirocco, I feel kinda invisible haha, people do look at it and stuff, but it's not on the same level as it was with the Golf.

As for other Scirocco drivers, I get the feeling they're not all enthusiasts, I've driven past quite a few and they don't seem to look, let alone acknowledge me.

Yeah, been waving since the old käfer (Beetle) days yonks ago.

Mk2 Scirocco & Corrrado owners are a mixed bunch, much the same as the Scirocco Mk3 is becoming now. Coming across quite a lot of Mk3 owners recently since just before Christmas who ain't in the "know" or understand the VW way. They don't even look your way at all.

Late Mk2 Scirocco's when newish build had wifeys the same. Thats why a lot of the late cars 1988 - 1992 are white. Middle aged wifey toys - Director's wife's car. They become low mileage and kept for a fair while. Good secondhand buy. But tend to have little scrapes and dings to put right.

C.
Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!

Saw my first roc today and i flashed my lights and gave the thumbs up!

Looked at me like i was something the dog dragged in.....woman driver.

I think most roc drivers aren't enthusiasts (as said in an earlier post).

Needless to say i won't be initiating it again as i felt a rite tool with the lack of response.....stuck up cow!

Don't give up! I don't want to stereotype but it's usually women that don't wave back/look at you like a mental patient. Besides, you'll probably never see her again anyway!

Same here with my first Mini a 52 plate, as they became more popular, the camaraderie wore off.

Occasionally - Depends who's driving!

I recall when I had my Cooper S, they were still pretty new and Mini marketing sent out direct mail more or less instructing owners to wave at each other. It was funny for a while, but when every third car became a Mini soon paled...
