Brownbear - I agree with you.

Since I had my GTI stolen August last year  I have been waiting for the R. It was first announced that the R would be launched in the UK Sept 09 - am I being sceptical when I say that maybe VW has tried to generate some hype on this car? How long ago was the R shown at the Nurburgring and the Bologna motor show as a concept car? All the fuss about the ordering process? The car is fundamentally a 2.0 GT with shared VAG components with the S3? I share your frustration  .

Despite this the new car it's going to be awesome and a Bluefin remap is on the cards! :)

Cool Spamdog. I've no idea to be honest but I'm sure SOMEBODY will tell us shortly...

Should get it nicely at the start of March if everything has been done on time. Did your dealer offer you a selection of different reg plate no's before you told him it was a private reg you were going to put on it? Reason I ask is because someone at my work said they sometimes give you a choice for new models. Not sure if thats only when you are registering the car and nearly taking delivery of it?!

Normal Sciroccos seem to take about 10 days from starting assembly to exiting the factory, so I think you could assume the same. I can't see anything odd to the normal line assembly, just different parts.

C.
Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!

I think a dealer will have a list of the reg no.s that are reserved for them from the DVLA as most registrations show where they were registered via the letters.
So no, you dont really choose as such but maybe the dealer would let you look at his list but all the registrations would be similar at each dealer i guess, i.e. the letters would almost be indentical if you get what i mean?!! :fall:

For example if a dealer has a reg that says ZX28 RRR, then the list would probably just consist of other plates like ZX28 RRS, ZX28 RRT, ZX28 RRU etc...

They do have lists, and they sometimes let you have a look and choose one, its entirely down to the dealer. Chances are they will all be very similar. Just look at all the new cars going out of dealers, on the forst day of a reg, they are all very close.

Its the same for Motorbikes etc aswell. i got to pick the reg on my R6 last year from a list. Didn't get the option with the Rocco as it was all done before i even knew it as here.

just been on the fone to the my sales chick for a catch up (car and non car matters lol)

well the good news is the system now says the car has been BUILT and is now waiting for shipment. woo hoo

she said did i want to want for mar 10 reg. I'm putting a private reg on it so it wasn't really gonna bother me...its a 2010 spec car anyway. I'd rather get the 2.5% VAT back from VW UK!!! Hopefully it'll be on a ship soon and i should have it in Feb. Yippeeee.

Thats awesome Spamdog and GTIRocR....I'm well for you, can't wait to see pics of your cars

P.S. I don't think options affect the buid dates, i've ordered every option bar dsg and mine has moved from week 13 to week 8.....unless its the DSG boxes that are causing a delay (possible because Spamdogs and GTIRoc R's are both manual like mine)
