Re: My R is in production!
I still don't have a build week. CS said to call back friday this week hopefully I will get a build week then.
Ordered 9th of November order was sent to factory on 19/11 (it was in my dealerships November allocation). Not too bothered when it arrives but would just like to know when...
I have just put my flat up for Sale today, If I'm lucky enough to sell it b4 the R arrives I can find it a Garage to sleep in

Re: My R is in production!
Ok so interestingly what I found out today, which Im sure alot of you know but the way they work out build weeks and then confirm them is, to look at your options list confirm the stock of those parts and when they can confirm they have all the parts they schedule the build week and confirm it. For instance I have about every option their is bar the electric seats and I am unconfirmed week 12 but was 16, obviously they are slowly getting stock of my parts and confirming it eventually.
I think I made sense there

They operate a 'just in time' system with regards to the build. They minimise storage requirements by having suppliers deliver the components close to when they are required ('just in time'), Hence why the planning schedules move around a bit.martinjrose wrote:Ok so interestingly what I found out today, which Im sure alot of you know but the way they work out build weeks and then confirm them is, to look at your options list confirm the stock of those parts and when they can confirm they have all the parts they schedule the build week and confirm it. They do not build up a stock of the parts required for your car, before building it, the storage requirements for that would be insane!!

That doesn't make sense. Why does the planning schedule move around if the suppliers should have everything 'just in time' to the factory and VW should operate an efficient system since they're German I'm assuming!!
Re: My R is in production!
It does make sense, you don;t get a confirmed build week until just prior to the build. Before that its just an estimate which can move, as suppliers update on their delivery times and availabilty etc. You see it posted heaps on here, build dates go back, or can come forward.BrownBear wrote:"Hence why the planning schedules move around a bit."Andy-GTI wrote:They operate a 'just in time' system with regards to the build. Either way you can be sure that its done with efficiency.

Re: My R is in production!
It doesn't really. Why are some persons build week being moved around by up to 4 weeks if they run an efficient system with their suppliers?! Seems like a long delay in delivering/suppling stock to the factory. I understand what your saying because my build date has been moved backward and I CAN read others peoples comments on how their build weeks are comin forward or going backward. Think they need to change supplier if approx some parts are taking a month longer than they originally quoted
Thanks for correcting me earlier on my tax post Andy but maybe they're just some things you don't know/wrong on or that you just can't admit that VW seem to be shabby at commiting to delivering expensive pi**in cars to the customers within a resonable amount of time!!

Re: My R is in production!
Oh and my car is sitting at the moment on an unconfirmed build week of 17!! Really disappointed in VW so far within this whole nonsense to be honest
Re: My R is in production!
What was you expectation on the build/delivery date?
It was widely known that you could have an extremely long wait for an R when it was ordered. I certainly didn't have any expectations on the delivery date until i heard officially.
There's any number of peope who've waited 6months plus for Scirocco's. Why should yours be any more important?
If you're really not happy, cancel the order. Simple

Re: My R is in production!
Brown bear a month is nothing early in 2009 xenons (& sunroofs aswell iirc) were causing 2months + delays on orders due to suppliers, if you only have 1 supplier who makes a part then you kind of have to wait for themBrownBear wrote:Think they need to change supplier if approx some parts are taking a month longer than they originally quoted

Re: My R is in production!
I was being kind of sarcastic about changing suppliers but in a way a bit serious aswell. I know suppliers are aplenty for cars but when it's a top car (so VW make out) such as the R then you would think VW would have pushed the boat out a bit and put a bit more pressure on to suppliers to make sure things for this particular car were kind of concrete. I appreciate what your sayng trix about only having 1 supplier for a particular part but whats more important in the long run. 1. unconvincing delay expectations due to unreliablity from a certain supplier or 2. customer satisfaction. There just can't be 1 supplier for certain parts of a car-im not having that.

Re: My R is in production!
I 'expected' March/April since this was what my official VW dealer was telling me, I'm a first time customer and was under good understanding that new cars were being built on average of about 16 weeks from VW.Andy-GTI wrote:What was you expectation on the build/delivery date?

I wonder how many of the folk on this forum were under the impression that it was "widely known that you could have an extremely long wait for an R when it was ordered". I certainly wasn't and by peoples reaction to getting their comms no and now unconfirmed/confirmed build weeks then it doesn't seem too many to me...
Yes normal sciroccos but since it is a relatively low number of 'limited edition' cars then I thought things would be a little different. I'm not saying my order is any different.
I am extremely happy with the car order and am just frustrated at the lack of customer satisfaction so far for spending a lot of money on it and being told nobody knows when its due to be delivered. Oh apart from some German bloke in a shady wee office somehere!
You don't seem to understand though and have already pi**ssed some else off with your attitude. Wonder why. Oh that's right, cos ur not getting the best model for this particular type.
Re: My R is in production!
16 weeks? rocs havn't been built to that time scale for a long time.
Many many posters on here have waited in excess of this, its pretty much the norm now. 20-24weeks is the average i'd say. Even VW stopped the scrappage deals on many cars a while back due to being unable to commit to deliver within the required timescales!!!
The Roc R is still built in the same factory as all the rest, and as such the orders will be fitted in around the other ones, They certainly won;t stop normal Rocco production to run all the R's through, so some will get them quite quick (Spam for one it seems) and other will be unlucky and have to wait (you).
Dealers shouldn't really have quited you a march/april date, until they had at least got an provisional build date.
Either way, looks like i'll have mine before you, so thats good.

Re: My R is in production!
Hey, c'mon guys behave yourselves.
Back on topic ...mines on its way!!!
It is strange how 1 dealer i went to showed me a fax from VW and it said about the possible long waits for the R and how dealers should warn customers of their expectations for quick deliveries.
Yet the dealer i ordered with was convinced from day one there shouldnt be any problems getting me one for march/april time and there isnt!
I am convinced it is more to do with dealer allocations and people should bear in mind that a dealer has a scirocco allocation not an "R" allocation. So whatever model it is they can still only order say 2 per month or whatever.
I know it's a pain but im pretty sure that whatever build weeks people have now will not be moved too much, maybe a couple of weeks here and there but at least it's coming
To be honest in some ways i'm not glad about having an early car as you guys will have the good ones when all the initial build niggles and problems have been sorted ...always problems on first batches of cars!!!

Re: My R is in production!
Thanks for that Spamdog and it's good that at least some are coming our way soon. It does seem to be unclear to even the dealers what happening with build weeks and they can't tell you much because the germans won't tell them anything I suppose. Mine was a Dec allocation (ordered in Nov) so nought much I can actually do but wait but it's frustrating. Was yours built this week? Any confirmation from the dealer?

Firsty: Even though I think your right, how do you what VW in Germany are doing with production since you seem to THINK to know it all?!
Secondly: Get a grip of yourself. 'It's a secret' on the right hand side. Wit? Time will tell on delivery dates since it certainly looks to me like you want a 'race to delivery' and that your about 12 years old. Nice one. You seem like a helpful chap but come across like a complete t**t. Sort yourself out

I took my private registration paperwork down on wednesday, he said all still on track so i guess it should be done soon ...no idea how long it actually takes to build a car? couple of weeks?BrownBear wrote:Thanks for that Spamdog and it's good that at least some are coming our way soon.
