interesting Tony, as Plum mentions the VAT is chargeable at the point of the invoice being raised & as i understood it this can only be done once the car 'exists' & therefore a VIN number & Reg plate are applied to it
i think you might find you have also effectly said the is in a satisfactory condition on delivery & waived your right to quibble any delivery dings or scrapes

As i understand it (in the UK anyway - not sure if there have been VAT drops elsewhere) but VW themselves, not the dealers, are taking the hit on the VAT increase. Thats what i have been told and it is written on my order form, along with the total price with 15%VAT, so I am not sure why you have paid up Tonyroc. All I have paid is a small deposit.
Sounds to me like you have "paid" for the car, but the money is really just sat in the dealers bank account, as the others have pointed out there are issues with invoices etc....
