Hi
Just went back to the Garage where I bought my new GT and they generously gave me an i-pod connection on asking.
Plugged it in and everything is fine and works well, switched engine off and noticed it stayed on. Rather than sit in the cold and watch it, I thought I'd ask people who know... Does it switch itself off after time? Does it matter if I forget? Will it flatten the battery, etc?
Cheers
Does your i-pod switch off? Does it matter?

Cheers, that's interesting.
Have to sit and watch, I suppose.
Does anyone know if there are different cables / quality of cables that might affect things?

all vw ipod cables are the same Steve the only other way to connect an ipod is to use the aux socket. I haven't noticed about mine as I don't leave it in the car. i'm sure some others will come along soon & say what theirs does.

I havent taken my ipod out of the car since i had it delivered - and it hasnt flattened the battery.
I think that once the ipod's battery is full it stops taking a charge anyway - so any any charge it takes between the car being turned off and the ipod shutting itself down will be negligible

Ha ha, I think it disables the charging when you take the key out.SteveGT wrote:Cheers. have suddenly wondered if my question is like opening the fridge and noticing the light is on!

When I get in the car everytime, just as I'm opening the door the ipod gives a small beep type noise as it wakes up if you know what I mean, so I assume it goes to sleep when your away from the car. I had probs with mine when the car was new, the ipod was charging, but was often flat in the mornings. 1800 miles later and nothing has been altered, but it never happens now, the ipod always shows fully charged. Odd. I never take the ipod out of the car.

I have an older I-pod nano. Although the light went out, it never actually switched off fully.... so I purhcased a "Tesco special" Sony USB stick.
