Possibly being daft here, but why 10k? I thought the car told you when it needed doing, inc days or mileage?

Re: first service... how much approx?
yeh it shows up on the mfd. it says i should have a service in 1,100 miles which would take me up to around 10,000 miles.
most cars usually have a service at 10k miles in order to get the first load of oil changed, as it tends to have lots of small metal filings in it from where then engine has worn in.
if left in too long it can cause a bit of extra wear on the engine componants.

Re: first service... how much approx?
Previous VWs I've had with long life servicing didn't need a service until 15-18,000 miles so 10,000 sounds quite quick. Is your car set to for long-life or fixed distance servicing?

Re: first service... how much approx?
Yeah our cars are set for time and distance and not longlife. If you dont do many miles in a year, time and distance would be considered preferable for a performace car...

Can you see how it's set up on the MFD or do you just have to wait until it tells you to get a service ?

Re: first service... how much approx?
Have a look in the roccopedia it tells you what to do to check. Although I can't say that method works with the new white display - someone needs to try it and post the results.
Rising Blue,DSG,Vienna Leather,Winter Pack,Pano roof,Folding mirrors,Dynaudio/DAB,Park Sensors,Cruise, Flat tyre indicator,Prem Mats+Sills,Metal Pedals,Gt Badge,Fiscon,Covered cup holder/rear cup holders.Now gone Piano Black with new Climate Control

Re: first service... how much approx?
Ignition on, continue to hold the trip reset for a few secs should bring up the display detailing the time to your next service. Once finished just let go of the trip reset....

First service completed today for £94. Wipers adjusted so hopefully that should resolve the smear issue...

Re: first service... how much approx?
Checked it last night
On the white display model (2010) it's a menu item, "Service interval", "Info" if I remember rightly
Mine is telling me next service in 22,200 km or 458 days ! (I've done about 3,500 km so far)
Seems a bit long to me for a first service, especially on a motor with a turbo !

Re: first service... how much approx?
Had the service issue explained to me by my dealer. Unless you do a lot of distance mileage then it works out cheaper for you on the fixed interval service schedule, over a period of 3 years.
I do a lot of stop start town driving and would not get anywhere near the optimum 18K service interval, probably need doing before 15K.
Basically its down to the long life oil they put in your engine and if I wanted they could change me over after doing a long life service. But the dealer was pretty sure that we all got long life oil put in at the factory at new.
What I'm not sure about is exactly when it will need servicing. The fixed service interval may NOT be at 10,000 miles but at 9,320 miles - as this is the equivalent of the continental 15,000 Km. At new with 4 miles on the clock my MFD told me my next service was due in 9,316 miles.
Bearing in mind the limited degree of tolerance allowed on servicing to keep your warranty valid - when should I have my car serviced (assuming the 1 year time limit doesn't come up first). 10,000 miles or at 9,300 miles - which is nearly 10% less than the advertised service interval.
Have we been conned ??

Re: first service... how much approx?
Yeah mine was completed today at 9,400.
It such a good thing when you get the opportunity to drive 1.9 TDI Jetta for the day while your Rocco is being serviced. Its was like stepping into a new car getting back into the Rocco. The 2.0 TSI is such a good engine....
