Leather vs Cloth

Just a quick poll to see how many people have ordered leather (regardless of colour), I have but I'm thinking I have time to change it for the cloth, and if I do so, I can add the Dynaudio, Cruise Control, Winter Pack and still save £645

I saw a clip from one of the other posts and the cloth doesn't look bad at all.

If people could help me decide with their pros and cons for both that would be excellent, I have added the autoglym/supaguard protection on the interior, however I feel it would be more useful on cloth??

PS I have a scheduled week 49 date.

went for black leather, current car has them as standard and like really like it especially with heated seats, now a convert, they are easy to clean, however, can scuff a little on edges through seat belts etc, can slide more but good bolsters do the trick, the ribs on the seat look similar to the mk1 scirocco

personally it was no option as I found the leather makes the interior just a little more special in line with the exterior of the car.

Also I think leather will always help residuals. It is a very expensive option though.

Agree with langlord, on all counts.

A lot of money, sure, but worth it in the long run (IMHO).

Another way of looking at it is 6.89% of the base price of a DSG and 7.33% of the base price of a manual - small %'s for something you (again IMO), as the driver, will be sat in and looking at and experiencing everytime you use the vehicle. I just don't think cloth is as good value, relatively speaking. Of course, we are in hard times economically and 1500 quid is a lot of money ............

Hmm it is a tough choice I saw the cloth interior a few weeks ago and it didn't feel special at all, however I might need to go back and see it again.

Leather is within budget for me however I was thinking the other extras mentioned previously would add more value to the car than just leather seats if you know what I mean - although you get the heated seats with leather anyway, and I have cruise on my current car which I never use, and not sure if the Dynaudio will affect me.

Many thanks for the responses I was beginning to think I was the only one going for leather, I am decided on it 90%, but was thinking now is the only chance if I want to change my mind.

People keep telling me it will be your car, get what YOU want in it, I have done exactly that but at the same time I WANT it cheaper lol

Cloth for me.

I've never had leather so it's not a big deal for me plus I'd rather spend the 1500 on DSG than seats. I can't afford both.

I have leather in my current car, which I bought 3 yrs old and the sides look worn out and the seats are a bit wrinkly, that’s my only concern that after a year they will look used, where as with cloth and a good car valet they can look as new for £40.

But in saying that the leather and stitching used on the Scirocco is far better than the one in my Golf, once again I find something that makes me lean towards leather.

I've gone for leather on mine.There were no pics around of the cloth when i ordered mine and most of the demos will have leather so i convinced myself it was the safe choice

.Seriously though,it's a lot of money but i think it's not a bad way to spend it.I like the leather aswell,it's quite grainy and textured and not too slippy so it still has plenty of grip and it's nice and soft,i liked it a lot.Normally i prefer half leather beacause full leather usually doesn't have enough grip for proper driving but i thought it seemed fine.Cloth's more practical on hot days and cold winter mornings though,although the heated seats should make up for it in the winter

That can happen with cloth aswell though,although i assume VW use quality stuff and abrasion test it properly.The cloth on the recaros in my 197 was starting to wear through on the bolsters after 10k miles (apparently they all do it).That was a renault though

.Partly why i was keen to trade on before it got any worse so i didn't have the headache making the warranty claim.

Also for anyone who has ordered Melin cloth (as i have) the pictures doing the rounds that show the alcantara round the edge of the seats is NOT Merlin cloth .. It is called Catch Up and is not available in the UK..

So the one shown in that vid is Catch Up not Merlin.

Leather it is for me then.

A few poeple have said leather comes with heated seats is this for definate as I thought that formed part of the winter pack I could be wrong though.

Can anyone clarify this.

There are 4 different winter packs depending on whether you have leather and/or xenon lights added.

The one for cars with leather states
Winter pack in conjunction with leather upholstery - including heated washer nozzles, headlight washers and low washer fluid level warning light

Which means that the seats already have heating built in as the pack doesn't add it.

Yep thats right I confirmed it yesterday, the leather comes with front driver and passenger heated seats as standard. I would avoid the winter packs if you have choosen leather.
