Ha, no worries, enjoy!! I'd have mine now if it wasnt for VW misplacing the first order. The wait makes it exciting though!

I must be very lucky. I ordered mine on the 8th of September and picking up on Monday! I was expecting end of January/feb. The dealer could not believe it !

So, I decided to chase the dealer today, as last week he told me my car would be getting on a boat on Weds 4th. Thinking it'd be making its way up the west side of the French coast by now, I was gutted to find my fears realised, and the car hasn't even left Portugal yet. I should've known better than to believe the dealer really, as I've lost count of the blarn he has spun me so far.

I saw a post earlier in the thread saying a shipment was happening this weekend. Anyone know if that came from a dealer or VW directly.

I have to say the oredring of my car has been an emotional tug of war, as I really really really want the car, and the alternatives are limited, but my experience with the franchise has made me contemplate cancelling my order many many times. Sadly the impact on the dealership of me cancelling my order, would be nothing in comparison to how gutted I would feel if that's the route I had to take.

Ring Customer Services at Milton Keynes and enquire about the status of your Scirocco. If the boat sticks to the recent timetable, it should be leaving tomorrow morning and takes about 36 hours to reach Sheerness, Kent. You will need your Commission Number (six digits) to talk to who ever answers the phone. Play innocent and ask where your car is and whens the next stage happening.

I don't understand why some cars come quickly and some are taking for ever. Is it to do with speck?

There are a lot of factors starting with how long it took your order to be placed by dealer or other means as VW order and their production systems. In some cases it's a day, in others it can take a fair while due to either the simply slowness of processing the order or the dealer has run out of allocation and the customer's order then has to sit until the dealer gets the next allocation of build slots.

When the customer's order is finally placed with VW at the factory in Portugal, it is at this point the order is allocated a "factory order" proposed build complete week number.

Then there is the availability of parts, engines such as the 1.4TSi and 170 Diesel have been longer than the others recently. Last year it was sunroofs and Xenon headlights at certain times. During this time, an order will possibly change week build number a number of times as the factory juggles with schedules based on forecasted delivery of parts.

When the factory in Portugal knows it can build the order, it firms up for a certain build complete week number.

An added factor to this is such things as cancellations or other car being delayed due to parts. The "production" slot of such a car becomes vacant so then another customer's order gets slotted into its place. During this period the "slot" hasn't gone production "frozen" so the factory can amend its own internal build spec to match the new customer's order. So now a customer suddenly finds their car has advanced more quickly.

There are other factors/circumstances why the cars move, some just one off situations.

Finally the customer's order about 4 weeks before the "factory order" production build week number (when the car will be finished leaving the factory), the build week number is frozen and the car will be built and finished that particular week. If the "factory order" build complete week number cannot be met, then it gets revised to a new week based on confidence with supplier delivery forecasts.

The customer's order then get built and completed is a matter of days on the production line. Once completed, it's off to the docks fairly quickly.

The ship appears to be sailing from Lisbon to Sheerness, Kent direct every second weekend, early Saturday I guess. Any car completed from the beginning (Monday say) of the fortnight will sit at the docks for the duration until the whole two weeks production is complete.

Sailing from Lisbon say, 36 hours max to Kent. The Sciroccos arrive and are unloaded by about late Sunday and early Monday. It is then upto the dealerships in the UK to request and process the cars to their dealerships. Bigger dealer chains appear to be better at this than some of the smaller private dealerships.

The Scirocco arrives at the dealers and the customer is contacted to make arrangments for the tax & insurance, payment arrangements etc. At the same time a handover date is arranged. Car joins the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) queue at the dealership. PDI as task takes a matter of a few hours. It can be the queue due to other customers that delays things.

From leaving Lisbon docks, it can be as quick as 7 days or 3 /4 weeks before the customer is driving their Scirocco.

Thats how it appears to be at the moment. There is no single one factor affecting the timing of an order being quicker or slower.

So,

Before I saw this post, I got hold of the sales manager of the franchise. His attitude & response were very deliberately worded. Although 'Understanding' my complaints re the misguidance, @ no point did he appologise.

Basically, I ordered a 2.0 gt on 29 June, as per the spec on the right, and including the autoglym (which I today cancelled as I found out the true cost) am due to pay £20,970 He has told me there is no more he can do with my deal, as it's not commercially viable. Anyone else get a better price than this? I am now really tempted to tell them where to poke it.

Update to my prev post.

Given that the dealer has blatantly lied about when my car was due on the boat, I have managed to wangle a really well specced passat diesel as a courtesy car until mine turns up. It's no scirocco, but gives me a few toys to play with until mine arrives. Also, had someone pay me pund notes for my other car yesterday, so saves me having to use dirty buses.

Ordered my car 27th August 2009 was driving it 29th October.

That’s……

2 Months, 3 Days
64 Days
9 Weeks (rounded down)
1536 Hours
92,160 Minutes
5,529,600 Seconds

I was told delivery would be week commencing November 23rd so I haven’t done bad to say some are still waiting after 12 weeks.
